As sogncab from Minnesota said: "what a fun thread idea"!
So let the fun begin!
2005, the day I purchased my BJ42 (1984 vintage) in Speyer, Germany:
200,000 km (125,000 miles), several previous owners and paint jobs (681 "John Deere Green")...
Moreover, several rust spots/dubious repairs/non OEM parts (seats, roll bar, door cards etc)...

After 18 months at a Toyota dealership in N. Germany the frame-off resto is complete and the money pit looks (hopefully) better in his new (4E9 beige) skirt. This 60/70/80-Series colour, although not a 40-Series colour, is period correct!

Used many CCOT parts and hardware, e.g. all the components of a half-tub (everything behind the front seats), front fenders (made in Taiwan!) etc, no issues since then.

Some years later in Greece, checked out by my brother (the wrencher of the family) and our Boxer George (my avatar's puppy)...

PS. You may see more pics at my signature.

Spent most of the nineties from 94 on as a soft top.

My son destroyed the clutch in 2005 and has been parked ever since. He promised he would help replace it and still waiting.

But I have been without a cruiser to drive.
The carrot 044.jpg

At one time I had seventeen Land Cruisers including projects. Plan is to get down to a more manageable number.

Was all that red underneath the green ?! How did you get to it? Links to thread??
Yeah what was left of the original paint was under brown primer and green paint. There are even a few places where there’s some yellow so it was also painted yellow at some point before the green 😂. I mostly used citrus stripper and scraping, then light wet sanding. There was a lot of bondo used as leveling over bare metal that I removed and painted those areas with rustoleum regal red and sanded that to remove gloss and “age” it. Same with any new metal, and there is lots of that. Build thread (‘63 FJ45) link is in sig line. Here’s a link to one of many posts in that thread wrt paint stuff.
Well back to chasing the original paint fairy. Lizzy told me to keep at it, and she’s the boss, always.

Looks like whoever rattle caned this just sprayed brown primer over the original paint wherever they had access. Obviously not between bed and cab, and also not anywhere in the interior. Wherever the primer overspray was applied i can leave the citrus stripper on longer to work both rattlecan layers, and the original paint seems to be less brittle. Have no idea how long this thing was painted over but maybe that saved some of the outside original paint from environmental decay. I made it to the overspray primer line on the back today. Not as shiny as new paint on the bottom but not bad for 56yrs.
