Wow I'm on a roll, my seventh 100 series in ~18 months. My girl friend name this one "The Black Knight" cool as it looks black at night.

Picked-up this very sweet 06LC Black Garnet Pearl with cream interior in SoCA Monday, took the long way home to Denver. I do love driving a clean LC cross country. My Only issues was I hated putting miles on this one. I started trip with 56,758 end with 58,488. Can you believe it's under 60K.
  • Everything I tried worked as new.
  • Body is a 10, as I've yet to find a dent or even a dimple.
  • Paint is a 9, as it does have some minor scratch, buffing and a little touch up paint should handle nicely bring to 9.5 plus. (can't be 10 if I touched-up, that's paint after factory)
  • Interior is a 9.5 plus, found some very minor scratches only I'd find. Carpet, seat leather, dash, steering wheel, head lining, etc.. all great condition.
  • Undercarriage is a 10, the best I've seen.
  • Windshield is Toyota and looks like factory install, first I've seen.
  • Window tint is like new all the way around.
  • Wheel are a 9 with a few scratches.
I've some question on front end in. That being I felt something in figure eight turns. But after driving 2K miles, I'm now thinking it just may be the over-sized knobby tires I'm felling. I'll swap out with some tires I'm use to see how they feel.

Here is an after picture; after having home for 90 days, after many washing, clay barings, correcting compound & waxing. It is so good looking WOW...

Oil is clean even though convention has been used, indicated frequent oil changes.

It has some "D" vibration, which I reduce on the road with a new air filter. Look like factory air filter was still in, it was dirty. Also would run rough at times as I'd come to stop coming over passes, like when I drop into Tahoe NV for a day. New filter took care of that.

I was running at about 85 MPH best I could figure (tires not being stock size) getting 14.5 MPG SoCA to Reno, change air filter and disconnected battery for ~30 minutes while having lunch. MPG drop to 12.5 after new air filter install, for first tank. Then move up to 13.5 MPG second tank. Final tank pulling into Denver from SLC via Wyoming was 15.5 MPG. This was readings from NAV trip info. MPG was probably about 5% higher, as large tires seem to yield about 3 MPH lower than actual speed at 60 MPH (road side HWY speed radar read out). That put it at 16.27 MPG on final leg which was all high altitude and high speed, until I hit Denver traffic about 40 miles out. I did find MPG was a little different, actually little higher with most tanks, using hard numbers based on each tank calculating by hand.

Getting a little clunk at times coming to stop. Propeller shaft & spider lubing should take care of that. They looked a bit dry so I expected the clunk, which was very mild.

No D to N to R clunk, so hub flange and axle teeth must be great, as must front diff bushings and steering rack bushing.

No record of wheel bearings being done, so I may finally get my hand on a virgin wheel bearing servicing job.

I'll be pulling spark plugs and do a compression check as I baseline. Should be interesting to see reading on such a low mile rig. I'll check all vacuum lines while at it, don't expect new vacuum lines will be needed.

Interestingly Time Belt has been done at ~7 year, but well below 90K (That is rare indicating, over maintained).

On-board fuel injector cleaning has been done, sweet! I wanted to run a can of 44K through the gas tank while on trip, but I could not find in CA or NV NAPA or Advance Auto so I stuck with 91 OCT Chevron for top shelve cleaning power.

This is going to be and interesting restoration. It will be a contrast to the high mileage I normal do.

I couldn't wait to get started so I was out in the rain today cleaning and using a synthetic clay bar. The cold weather and rain aided in clay bar. I used something (new to me) a synthetic clay that is used with car wash soap for lube. I'm impressed so far. I did plastic bag test before and was grainy, after one pass with syn clay plastic bag test was smooth.

Paint as I said is a 9, but looks like it will buff well, maybe to a 9.5. I'll cut with correcting compound and micro fiber pads on my DA buffer then wax. I'll come back with touch-up paint when I can get it if needed. Touch-up paint has been taking three week to come in, I'll order in the morning.

After first cutting with Meguiars micro fiber DA correcting compound & cutting pad. I'll touch up then final cut & wax

This is arguable the cleanest rig I've ever seen, much less owned. I wish I could keep it and my girl friend really really wants this one, but I bought to sell. A plan is a plan and I need to get it out the door to make room for my 07 Unicorn with a blown engine I'm restoring going into winter. I need more garage space badly. I had to get the 07 out of garage which is going to be very difficult to get back in when I'm done with the 06 and some work I been planning on my 01LX The King.

Looks good, these minor scratches show soften nicely with correcting on first pass.

Nice find. Beautiful truck. I think you are correct on the tires. I have the Toyo AT II Xtreme and the tread lugs "slap" the pavement on a turn at slow speed.

I notice it most when turning into the garage on the concrete.

Some shots of the windshield. which I believe to be factory install.

The light color on side molding in rain gutter is more of my camera setting highlighting it, a little rubber conditioner and will look like new.

Well I am very excited to see where you go with this one considering all the work I've seen you do on your previous ones! There is one thing that trips me up though...

After 7 100s in 18mon how do you still have a girlfriend and where the hell did you find her???

Thanks.

That is good to hear you feel the same at slow speeds. I could feel vibration in my left foot once steering wheel was turned about hafe way to lock

We found each other at the heath club. She is a hand full to be sure and very demanding. I owe her for every night I spend in the garage, which she collects on regularly. But she's has come around and now wants a 100 series.

If you look close at picture in garage of full view, you'll see something very interesting on far side under garage window. That's going to be the interesting project, it for my Unicorn.

This one I suspect will not need much compared to others, it is like new.

Yep I said Unicorn.

It is a NO NAV 07 w/127K miles and a blown engine. Its taking a back seat for now as I work on this 06LC and my 01LC. I'll be swapping engine with the one you sitting there under window. I'm considering rebuilding & blue printing the blown engine to swap back in. Being it is a Unicorn, I'm thinking match VINs will matter. The Unicorn is second only to this 06 in clean, it was very well (Dealership) care for, but Heater Tee blew. Had shop only replace with T-belt job. I'll start a thread on that when I begin working on. I'll share a very interesting story on it and how I started this hobby in the first place when time comes.

I don't know how many of you have seen this For Sale - 1999 spressoWAGON UZJ100-Series Very Custom Build. It's arguable one of the finest examples of and off road build. I'd buy it if I was into off road, but I'm all stock for now. It was @spressomon working on this rig recently that first clued me into issue with our FPR (Fuel pressure regulator). He's every bit as detailed oriented as I.

On this low mile 06LC I'm looking for any clues I may need one (FPR). Even though mileage is low sitting long periods could cause issue we normally don't see until 100k or 150K miles with fuel. I'm also on alert for fuel inject issues. But this rig was driven regular based on car fax, just not far. So issue from sitting may not be of concern.

Curious, have you priced that 2006 LC with 60K miles?

BTW I purchased a 2002 LX470 with 25,000 miles last year - now has almost 38,000 miles on her.
Age and sitting is hard on some components - namely both left and right upstream O2 sensors have been replaced along with the MAF sensor. I think mine has what they call "Exhaust Blooming" where when you come to a stop you can barely hear some exhaust noise - Lexus has a service bulletin to tighten some exhaust bolts and replace some exhaust gaskets, but not bothering me enough to do it. Mine also has some road noise sound from the front but I suspect that its a tire issue.

I would be curious how what your Long Term Fuel Trims look like. Mine at idle do bloom up 5-10% but at steady highway speed well under 5%.

Owning a low mileage near mint 100 is definitely a sweet treat.

3 years ago I bought a 98 with 69,000! Now has 120k - bought this to drive and wheel.

.

Glad you both made it back to Denver safely. Great looking truck. I'm sure it will be pre sold in no time.

So yeah I noticed the motor sitting there in the back ground- did you pull the motor from the Unicorn or is that the replacement?

Looking clean and congrats, shes a beauty!

Subscribed, love your threads!

I stay away from high age / low mileage vehicles in general. The other way around is preferred for used vehicle finds.
I hope that hundies are way different in this regard. I like your work on them and wish you luck!

By far my favourite color, I have been looking for a diesel version in this color but the mileages have been so high, I don't want to spend the same time baselining on this next one as the previous as time isn't a plenty with a new company start up so will be a lot more picky in what I get.

Nice find there though, I see you have a engine out in your garage so keeping yourself busy.

So you got it off that guy here on the forums? Nice.
I got last two from members. I've found working with mud members both on sales and purchase a pleasure. Nether rig was I looking for, just couldn't help myself.;)

25K on a 02.... WOW.

I've not priced the 06LC w/58K "The Black Knight" yet, but I'm open to offers.;)

I do have members that have contracting me in pasted. I give them first shot, but often they already found one by the time I do. I'm contemplating selling my beloved 01LC "The King" to fund the 07LC "Unicorn" and getting offers now. This is a very difficult decision for me. I had planed on keeping The King for the rest of my life, and always cared for it with that in mind.

I do need to go through my post purchase evaluation on the The Black Knight, which takes about 40 hours. I'll then have better idea of what it will take to restore in cost & time. I did Snowy in 90 days and 700 hours. It was a big job that at first looked like nothing much. Part of reason it was so big was it pre sold and I customized to buyer desires. We put in 299 parts, to be fair counting 7 qt of oil a 7 parts etc...

My girl friend really thinks I should keep this one more than any other, as it was a great ride home and clean. First time she didn't feel the need to get out her wet wipes and clean.:steer::)

But money rules which sells first, offers on any that I can't refuse takes it/them. I also need more room in garage. I'm finding I need much,,, more space, climate control along with a lift. This all takes money, and the hobby must pay for itself.

I could see your's having damage from moisture building in gas, rusting needles of fuel injector and FPR. Can't see what it would do to o2's or MAF expect those rust issues subsequently effecting o2s. I've had two used (100K mile) o2 sitting on shelve for ~8 years from my 01LC. Used one in whitlady, it worked fine. Fuel pump and fuel lines can also be damaged I suppose by sitting. Issues are: moisture builds in fuel as it sits, E85 crapola! and bad fuel.

With The Black Knight car fax indicates regular use as I stated above. But I'll still be looking carefully at air & fuel intake systems.

IIRC the "exhaust boom" was corrected by the addition of the weight looking thingy (flex capacitor, or beer can holder after roll over as some call it). It's under the door B pillar on frame rail. Older models have it on PS where removing presents changing reinstalling as nuts aren't secured to frame, newer on DS.

Sorry didn't get readings, but may go see what trims are soon, I'll report back here. I want to dump in can of 44K on go for HWY drive, that may be good time at start and then again after tank emptied. I did take my lap top with tech stream, but forgot disk. Sure enough it needed key to work (again) PITA, but I could not reinstall to run in flied without disk, my bad. I did have a blue tooth OBII @benjawi4 gave me in-trade for work I did on his rig, but just looked for any codes, which there were none.

3 years ago I bought a 98 with 69,000! Now has 120k - bought this to drive and wheel.
That was supper low for 98, very cool. They do like to be driven. Was it garage kept?

Glad you both made it back to Denver safely. Great looking truck. I'm sure it will be pre sold in no time.

Thanks Andrew.

It's going to take a good offer for me to let this one go. I really would like to keep all three, I'm so confused.:bang::bounce2::)

We stayed at Atlantis in Reno and Little America in SLC downtown, both very nice 4 star. We hit rain from Reno to SLC. At times in rain I felt hydro planning and slowed to safer speed, but even in rain I ran 80 MPH most of time. With the Land Cruiser I find need to remember to slow, they drive so well in any weather. But then I'm not only one on the road, so need to remember others drivers too. Flying by them is unsettling to them in many ways. But I-80 was so easy a drive it was tempting to fly, funny no one passed me until I hit Colorado. One thing; I've never seen so many big rigs on the road "WOW" it a continues train of them.

Pick up some bumper skins from a great mud member @JAntosch in SLC, thanks again.

Looking clean and congrats, shes a beauty!
Thank you!

Oh and thank you as well, your too kind!

100 series if straight and rust free any mileage is good. But of course with mileage and age more parts need addressing. I started this hobby to find what a minimally maintain rig with high millage would take to restore. Not frame off restoration, but a ten foot restore.

Thank you for your wishes, luck is good. To bad I didn't have any on tables in Reno..LOL

By far my favourite color, I have been looking for a diesel version in this color but the mileages have been so high, I don't want to spend the same time baselining on this next one as the previous as time isn't a plenty with a new company start up so will be a lot more picky in what I get.

When I did Redbaron the 07 high mileage of this color (BGP) I was so exited to perfect paint. But buyer (a mud member) didn't want it detailed. He was only concerned with not needing a mechanic where he was taking it in Turkey a hot zone I understand. So I never got to see what this color really looks like, now I have that chance. Befor owning this color I wasn't a fan, but I've come to love it.

I'm starting cutting today, can't wait to see it shin. Pearl is so cool to watch transform during perfecting. When I did WhiteLady I fell in love with Golden Pearl (White). I'll have to pry this from my girl friends hands once buffing is done, it's her favorite color.

I hear you on time, these are a labor of love. This low mileage will/should be a snap compared to others I've done, and I paid up for for that reason.

Good luck on your search.

That is and engine I was looking at locally, while trying to decided should I swap or rebuild the Unicorns blown engine. The seller made me such a great deal, I could refuse. He even delivered just before we flew out to buy the 06LC in SoCA. I paid what most would just to have shipped. It is a 2008 4runner w/130K miles 2UZ-fe VVti that been sitting for two years with transmission and wire harness attached.

Just in part I'll need like VVTi actuator and control valve it pays for itself. I'll need those as Unicorn blew head-gasket and oil is milkshake.

I've not yet decided on course I'll take with 07 Unicorn. Reason is or queston; does matching VIN # matter? On any other 100 series I'd say no. But a 07LC silver Unicorn is arguably one of the rarest finds in the lower 48 of the USA. It's the holly grail of the 100 series. It seem because it is a Unicorn it was very well cared for. Until this 06LC came available I'd say its was the cleanest I've ever seen, but the 06LC tops it in that respect.

I do think I now have three of the finest example of the 100 series, or will as each is restored. I wish I could keep them all.

Last year I had three LX470's with 215K, 276K & 299K respectively. The first Whitelady was 215K and minimally maintained. It took 9 mo's to restore (looking for hood) and came out great. The 00LX Graybear was a bear I bought for parts but ended up just making safe to drive coast to coast, took two months of work. YITE a 98LX no rear locker at 299K was a pig mechanical not worth the effort, I bought for body parts and flipped to a flipper that approached me. In these three it wasn't so much about mileage, but average to bad owners and cheap corner shops messing them up. Slee and I agree; most we do is repairing what corner shops and sometimes dealership have messed up..

Having a virgin like this 06LC to work on is sweet, and I'll see comparison to high mileage that will be interesting. But with your abilities I'd not hesitate to buy high mileage clean, then take your time. For those of us that wrench it's ok, but those that don't it's best to buy restored, or at least buy low mileage.

We can keep cost down (our time), so it just parts we shell out for and machine shop time. None wrenchers can spent easily $15 to $20K with shops to get what we do done.

Good luck with start up, can you share with us what it is?

Yes no problem, I moved into Electrics after working on cars, and have now decided it was time to start up on my own. I was running large projects with my last employer so have built up a lot of contacts over the years. These large electrical contrators don't like having a large labour force anymore due to the recession and tend to sub contract out parts of there larger projects. Which is where I step in, I will take portions of there work and provide labour and take over the general day to day running of these area's.
