I read somewhere the vehicle lowers an 1" when over 70mph, but never could find it in any documentation, and of course you can't really tell driving. Probably an old wives tale.
Nope, not on this, but my Mercedes in sport mode, yes;)

Here you go

Reading fully through, it’s 4.8 inches of range from low to extra high.

I agree with 2001lc in that I love using the dampening switch often.

Past owner of both a MY 2000 and 2005 LC. May have an opportunity to pick up a clean 2006 with 150k for mid 20s maybe 26k. Should I be worried about the SAIS enough to limit my search for another 2005?? Also on fence about the AHC. Seems like both of those could cause headaches from all my research. At a minimum I would have to do the SAIS bypass and maybe rip out the AHC if it fails. Truck is extremely clean, no rust. One of the nicer ones I have seen which makes me want to get it but I don't want to get into a lack of reliability. I don’t care about the extra hp around town or the advantage of AHC. Won’t be used as a daily. Only used weekend cruiser. Looking for opinions. Thanks in advance

The extra horsepower is nice. The ride is superb.

But based on your location AHC is unnecessary unless your "weekend cruiser" means getting out of the coastal plains and piedmont frequently - aka elevation. Actually nobody in your general area should be seeking out a VVTI/AHC 100 series for any legitimate reason whatsoever. That's just bragging rights and when you hit your first AHC issue or SAI triggers dash lights you'll wonder why you bothered. If you have the money burning a hole in that wallet, whatever. If you're asking for logics, pass.

To my knowledge, stays in N.
L to N auto~9MPH
H to N auto~19 MPH
Will stay in H if in off-road configurations. IIRC, that's when TC in L. Drops half way down from H, to between H & N at 30 MPH. Goes into hyper H, if senses stuck while in H.

I got one of my 07LX's into hyper H once. Freaky high.

We see many rip out AHC. Why:
  • Most because they hear that's the thing to do. What a waste!
  • Some, do to rusted out rigs. Just to much $$ have shop fix.
  • Some, because it time to replace globes. They get a ridiculous Dealership estimate of $5k TO $6k, and on a beer budget. When it can be done for ~$1k to $2k.

Check out @suprarx7nut (AKA YodaMD). His is a very nice heavy built LX off-road rig, with very cool custom drawer system. His AHC system, is bone stock last I saw. Works great! He's a great video posted in mud, on how to adjust the AHC.

I've customize some off-road heavy's with AHC. With King AHC rear coils, and LC T-bars. This gives added load capability. Aslo, in the unlikely event AHC system failure. Keeps off the rocks, just as any non AHC would. Yet keeps all the benefits of AHC.

I find it interesting. Sometime when I'm doing a PPI. The owner sees me try AHC out. They say "what's that do"?....

There is so much good info in owners manual, but few read them. Why, it more than once sentence.

How many know the newer LX, key fob. Rolls down all windows and open sunroof remotely. That may just be 06-07LX, which got all the bell and whistle.

I just didn't think it did very much for ride quality. Never fiddled with the controls, ever. At the time, I also had an 80, so that was the direct comparison.
Today, so many years later, I have a 270K mile '04 and it does everything just fine. Even on the original suspension.

I've had dozens of SUVs and trucks over the years. AHC isn't something I would ever seek out and would likely actually avoid, if given the choice when shopping for an old Toyota.
The majority of 100's are twenty to twenty five years old. So they're ancient by today's standards. What does a 100's AHC do that's so amazing?

AHC adds comfort and some marginal improved stability over regular suspension. It's not really that it's "amazing", just that it's a superior performing OEM suspension. To get anything near similar comfort and performance, you're going to be looking at the top tier aftermarket stuff. IE $7k+. Not what anyone is realistically putting into a 100 after they remove AHC, lol.

Such a misunderstood thing.

Comfort is subjective, like audio. For some, an FM radio and tape deck is "perfectly fine". For those familiar with active components and DSPs, they'll think you're insane to suggest the factory tape deck and a full modern hi-fi setup are "basically the same".

Globe changes and fluid changes happen as often as shock changes on old-school suspension. Globe changes and fluid flushes are way easier. 🤷

Having owned a couple 100's I'll take AHC and the secondary air VVTI all day. Those things fail once a decade - maybe. A few hours of wrenching for years and years of better performance. Fantastic trade off if you ask me.

The fear some people have over unfamiliar things puzzles me. New stuff isn't so scary, haha. Just gotta roll up your sleeves and learn about it.
