Nice! Safe travels, if you see a loaded 60 crossing the prairie with yankee plates, wave! We plan on departing from NYC at 0430 on the 31st July and rolling on to Ouray sometime early Sunday afternoon.
Not sure what route you are taking. 3 of us will be heading out of VA on the 31-1st and taking I64 to I 70 if you have any issues.

Wow! That is quite the haul.

We are going to nickel and dime our way up.

First night camp in Southern NM, second night in northern NM, then Saturday night in Colorado west of Creede somewhere.
Yes, good news is I’ve done this trip multiple times on different motorcycles so have a routine, places where I like to stop etc. Being inside a truck with AC vs on a bike when it’s 100F will be much less tiring. Actually kind of looking forward to a few days of super-slab to unwind, take pictures and enjoy the beauty of our country :)

I’m a big fan of audiobooks on long drives. Just settle in to the story and enjoy the ride.

Please somebody grab RV59 and RV64. I don’t want randos as neighbors!

  • Knuckle job/bearing repack
  • Oil change
  • Park brake hardware and shoes
  • Suspension bolt check-up
  • New soft lines
  • Front pads
  • Tire rotation
  • Exhaust gaskets
  • Fan clutch checkup/refill
  • New rear locker actuator
Pretty short list this year for me 😆. I really wanted to bring the 40, but no time to get it insulated and A/C installed. Maybe next time! 80 it is. It's been so blasted hot and humid working in the shop is torture. I've needed the wipers most mornings lately going to work, and the A/C vents blow fog. Looking forward to that fresh air 🥵.

Tick tock!!

We’re planning on starting out on 36, we’ll be paralleling 70 and might jump on it.

Is there a general hailing channel on GMRS?

a long day.. Head over to buena vista run tin cup to Mirror lake . Even a better time if you do an over nighter run the miners loop . that's Hancock pass come onto tin cup from the pitkin side . cross mirror lake there are killer free primitive camps sites on the right, after the lake .. That area is as beautiful as the alpine loop with no crowds
And if your that close Napoleon pass is well worth a run.

I am not sure. We will be spread out but are meeting up in Colo Springs Sat and will head over the mountain on Sunday early am.

@Mesa Woman do you know if these sites have good shade? If so I might be interested.
I don't think so… but I’ll ask or your welcome to call and ask.
Do you have an easy-up/canopy or awning? That’s what we use and just create our own shade.
Also, mostly we will be on the trails for the heat of the day.

As we start packing for our adventure I wanted to reshare information about food at the KOA.

FOOD TRUCK INFO:

Marchio's (Mar-Kee-oh) Food Truck will be parked down by the registration tents near KOA campsite T22. Marchio's will be providing breakfast burritos and the same menu from last year. This year Jeff Marchio and his crew are running the restaurant/kitchen at KOA Thursday - Monday
Food Truck Monday - Friday

Here's the link for hours and menu for the restaurant: Marchio's Grill at Ouray KOA Holiday: Food Services for the Ouray KOA Holiday Campground in Colorado - https://koa.com/campgrounds/ouray/food/marchios-grill-at-ouray-koa-holiday_55a4bf25-c70a-4dfe-8486-8cb5d78d5293/?msockid=135d1b8a57f66fcf297b09e2565b6ee6
Breakfast is served at the KOA restaurant from 7a-11a
Dinner at the KOA restaurant is 4p-8p
Food truck will be serving early as well until we fizzle out of camp.

Several of us found that we took too much food and kitchen gear last year and could be fed easily by Marchio's and in Ouray.

Can us losers who are not staying at the KOA still partake of the KOA restaurant or is it for KOAers only?

Also! Refurbed radiator is in (don’t concentrate too hard at the rest of her under the hood space, she’s shy) and Moose is ready to roll! Just have to catch the mouse that has taken up residence. 😑

It's a restaurant and food truck, open to all as far as I know. Especially if you're with the cool kids.

I believe you are welcome to the restaurant, I believe it’s open to the public and not KOAers only. (Lol…I see you!)
