This year we wanna really go on some nice scenic spots and let the kiddos explore a lot. Anyone else with kids wanna do that, let’s connect. My son is almost 10 and my daughter almost 6. I also wanna do some challenging stuff with the 80 this year, but I gotta keep the fam in mind if I wanna keep doing it. Lol.

I'd recommend a day drive over Owl Creek Pass to the West Fork of the Cimarron. The kids can play by the stream and there's a nice easy hike at the end of the road towards the headwaters. Plenty of exploring to do. For those interested in a more strenuous, relatively short hike/climb with tremendous views, Courthouse Mountain is fantastic. My wife and I climbed it after dinner when we camped along the stream on the 4th of July weekend several years ago.

D,

I have to say the Silverton side of Stony Pass is some of the most beautiful country I've seen up there. You can summit Stony at the headwaters of the Rio Grande from the Silverton side via easy switchbacks. Coming from Creed is a different story - very rocky with washouts, but definitely doable. Casey and Bill (cornboy) did it pulling tent trailers coming into SAS1. Bill broke all of his eggs!

At any rate, I'm thinking of driving up from the Silverton side and having lunch in a really nice meadow up there one day this year. You guys are more than welcome to join. It's gorgeous, and is a really low-key drive.

We may also want to look at running the cow trail again (filmed some of True Grit up there). May be a little hairyer this year with all of the snow, but a group of us did it last year. Lots for running water for kids to swim, fish, whatever. @EasternYeti swam in it (cold as hell)!

That Owl Creek excursion looks really nice too.

I'm glad the eggs were the only casualty! For a bit there I was thinking I had made a bad recommendation to get to SAS #1 over that pass. But that one section coming up from Creede wasn't as bad as the J%#p folks tried to tell us :-).

Called the KOA today. All the back 47 sites are booked.

Hunter and I are in 55a (I think same as last year)

I’m going to have to check where I’m at. I made the reservation all the way back on January 1st or 2nd. I requested one near whatever @The Jade Bean had posted he reserved. (52ish I think)

I’m here now. Should allow plenty of room for all to gather around coffee!

Can we allocate a post to show who’s doing Moab BEFORE vs who is going AFTER?

@POTATO LAUNCHER

Who’s doin’ what?

I say if someone wants to spearhead a thread regarding SAS and Moab please do. It would be easier for you guys to navigate.
My vote is for @EasternYeti. You got Skills Bro!

It was a great way to kick SAS1 off, John. I'd do it again for sure. Solid recommendation!

For anybody wanting to go to Moab, if you want challenging trails , 21 road , connector trail and Billings here in junction . Montrose has very hard trails also, death row , die trying are a couple of them. Also as said Moab and junction will both be hot make sure your cooling system is on point

We need toppings this year also, maybe cups that don’t melt either when he puts hot pop corn into them

Someone needs to bring a big pot for me this year - current setup will be a surprise but it doesn’t have any way to accommodate a pot that large

Toppings can be arranged - and perhaps we’ll pop it in bacon grease since we’re all so healthy already

And let’s say @ajax1 that we have an ever better surprise in store just for you :hillbilly: @rhah

How big of a pot are we talking?
