Does anyone know if the Quick Hinges are still being made? I ordered a set from MC design offroad in July, They took my money but never sent them, I have emailed them multiple times but never had any response. Thanks

I’m back at DTW working a hard broke 1958 refueler. I have a bunch of hinge sets worth of hinges in my taco along with packing material and hope to get a break soon to pack some sets and get them out of the local Post Office.

It’s kinda funny that this jet was at my AD base in NorCal when I was there 02-05 with the U-2 and now my son and I work it in MI. My wife also got to take her first spouse lift ride in the same jet a few years back.

The first pic is while we were dragging it from the DTW Delta concourse across the airport to figure out why it broke. Second pic has my son (tall blonde guy in the aviators), wife and me (in front of the MI symbol) after her ride.

I’m trying something new. I know not everyone uses these immediately, so I’m applying a light coat of fluid film on the parts to keep them decent.

Just make sure to clean them well prior to paint.

My taco tailgate is my hotel side workbench.

Awesome work and great progress. Thank you very much for your service. I need a set of these.

How do I order? Do you have a website for ordering?

The shop is currently a couple of weeks out from making more parts. I’ll post up when that happens and I’m all caught up and ready for new orders.

First years at the lazy B were on the -135 reengine program. Structural design work mostly (APU enclosure, doubler and tripler replacement of sonic straps, vertical and drag fittings for new engine mounts, …) but I got to do the aerodynamic summary. Forgot most of this stuff in the 40+ yrs since.

Thank you so much.

I have a question, my 73' has the factory door hinges that mount to the body, but not the portion that mounts on the door.

Can I order the Door Half Set and use the factory lower hinge or would I need the Regular Set?

Very cool. My grandfather was 32 year Air Force (first Army, then Army Air Corps, then Air Force). I asked him one time what were some of his proudest moments and memories. To make a long story short, he was there and played a critical role in Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier for the first time. When they heard the sonic boom for the first time, they thought they had lost him.

Just arrived! I’ll be mounting them within the week

Just remember to mount them as a complete unit in each position with the door halves with longer bolts in the lower position. And use anti-seize on the threads to prevent galling.

I am in the middle of refreshing my doors before heading to an event in two weeks and I just received my hinges! Got them installed today.

First, I removed my old hinges from the door and cowl. I primed everything off the truck and gave the hinges a first coat of finish. Pulling the bottom hinge from the cowl is a piece of cake. Pulling the top hinge is a bit more difficult. I found that I had to remove a couple of screws that hold the windshield hinges in order to get a wrench on the bolt heads. I also removed the kick vents so I could reach in through there. On the drivers side I also removed the fuse block (disconnect the battery first) as well as the headlight switch for better access.

I got the new hinges installed, but kept everything loose (doors and cowl)

Next I mounted the doors, tightened everything, made adjustments, final tightened, then lifted the doors off. Works like a charm!

Going to get a final coat of paint on tomorrow.

WOW! I had no idea the top hinges would be so difficult. I hope he gets more in stock in time for me to do mine while the doors, kick vents, and everything else are stripped off for paint & body work. I told him when he gets more in stock to let me know.

Yours look great even in primer.

Thanks! The top ones are definitely an exercise in patience. If you have giant hands , its going to be really difficult. Try reaching up there and feel the bolts now so you can mentally prepare yourself for the journey. All told, I would say it was a two hour process to get the old hinges out and the new ones in. Worth the effort, but it wasn't without frustration.
