Putting the Mojo Back in Bad Mojo

Another item I have been putting some thought into is my roll cage. I am thinking about ordering in different parts from Metal Tech and making a cage similar to this one.

This should be the farthest thing from your mind IMHO. Get the darn thing running well first; key word being "well". You ain't gonna roll it if it doesn't leave the driveway. At your current rate, I foresee another two years before the roll cage coming into the scene :flipoff2:

I can't tell from the pic if this roll cage is bolted together or not. MT roll cage is superb as designed and well worth the money I think. By the time you're ready for a MT roll cage, you *should* have the cash to bash I'd think. You usually only get one chance to find out if your roll cage is good or not!

Just ask Pappy...wasn't a hard roll but the full weight of the vehicle was on the cage for a few seconds...and nothing! Well maybe a broken heart or 2:flipoff2:

Something else I thought of this morning driving to work - Even if you keep your 40 column, take it out and replace the bushing at its base. It's probably mostly disintegrated anyway. I think IPOR and/or Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters sells a bearing to fit. Or you can find one yourself.

Or he can get the OEM part at work...

;)

Oh, didn't realize it was an OEM part. Thanks for the info!

Our 40 column didn't have a bearing or bushing at the bottom, it just relied on the rag joint to support it. The 55 column did have a bearing.

The plot thickens! (and I need to know the deal, because my 45 needs the same solution).

Maybe it was gone? Mine looked like this, and this is how they usually look from what I've seen:

Progress

Today was a good day. My 1HZ is currently mounted up to my 40, and I finished cutting out all the old mounts. Overall, I am happy with its placement, but there is some tweaking that needs to be done to make sure everything lines up. Once that is done I will pull the temporary mounts and weld up some new ones that are spot on.

Fitting a 1HZ in a forty is a snug fit to say the least, but will be super sweet once done.

Here are a couple pictures. I will post more pictures once everything is fitted 100%.

Sweet, nice progress man. Get that smelly pig on the road!

(drool!)

Dang. That monster is going to look great, and work even better. Gett'r done.

I'm seriously contemplating a 1HZ-H55 combo for my dead 60 see Mojo progress. It's such a nice powerplant.

In lieu of that combo, I decided to buy another 60. First shakedown run will be Sacramento to Cruise Moab. :)

Very nice Paul! Keep us posted with pics and progress.

that sure looks Purdy :D

Nice engine hoist, tranny jack and a leveler...:hhmm:

I can't wait to get it there.

Looking good Paul.

Thanks

SONOFA!!!!!

You're beating me.

Very nice.

You better hurry up, but the true test will be if mine starts.

Do it! It should fit in a 60 nicely.

I can't wait to have it back up and running.

Will do!

Its the only way to do it. The tranny jack also allows me to control the front to back and side to side pitch, which makes it super easy.

The plan right now is to lift everything back up and pull the current mounts off and bolt on a piece of plate steel to the insulator and get everything exactly how I want it, and from there make a template off the plate. I also want to have my power steering box, heater, and tunnel cover in place before I burn in new mounts.

Its a super snug fit with everything. I attached the fan and fan clutch and it barely fits with the radiator. Interestingly the fan clutch doesn't sit down all the way down on the old water pump, but will on the new water pump I have.

Be aware that your fan will flex a lot. There was some research on this in an old thread in the 80 section but I believe it was around 2", maybe more. The fan may not make contact at idle sitting in the garage; more likely 300 miles from home and 50 miles from pavement at 4,000 RPM which makes a big mess of things that get in the way. They've been know to create new dangly bits.

And it's not just air. Drop the hood into water and watch that fan propeller forward. Ask Onur.
