I know this thread gets referenced a lot for the KZJ78s as well because they are similar to LJ78s, so I figured it might be a good time to share some findings.
I can confirm that the consumables IE brake pads and rotors front and rear do cross...
Finally picked this up from the laser cutter yesterday! Very excited, the cuts came out beautifully with almost no slag.
A quick test fit on the spare transmission case and everything lines up great so far. Only the clearance holes are laser...
So I got an EGR delete kit with the gauge from Fit Garage (www.thefitgarage.com) and the probe goes through the blocking plate at the exhaust port for the EGR system.
The thermo wiring is just run in through the fire wall and up toward the...
I can't remember, is yours a manual or automatic? If you've got an auto then there is a nice port in the firewall where the clutch cylinder would go, it is a great spot to run wiring. In my first LJ78 I pulled power from the clinometer light...
That truck is an automatic. I need to pop the hood, but I am pretty I know where you are talking about to pass power through. I like the idea of using the aux power box and power everything from that. Thanks for the recommendation.
@Karmapolice...
Do you have any pictures of where you installed the probe?
Also do you mind sharing how you went about your wiring. I am in the collecting of parts stage of this project and I am just trying to see how others have gone about it.
I foresee a ratcheting tap handle or tap sockets in your future after making it happen a 1/4 turn at a time.
Was your caliper just being held on by the lower bolt if the top was stripped out? Or did it strip out on the way out?
Still lurking, might even time it right one of these days to make it back down to NM to one of those fancy breakfasts gatherings that got started up, so I can see this swap in person.
What ho?! A ghost! We haven't heard from you in awhile Paul. Good to see you are still lurking.
Gumming is a good guess. They were boneyard harvests, and have been sitting for several years.
I am looking for a spare 1KZ power steering pump for a KZJ78. Part number is 44310-60220. Doesn't have to be new, but does need to be in good enough shape to rebuild.
Thanks
I had an issue with the temperature. As usual, most likely the system needed burping. A few cycles and fills and it appears to be holding 195°F just dandy. Tomorrow, the freeway drive home.
Vrooooom!
@Bad Mojo,
Other than mentioning it was for a RHD on the quote request on their website, nothing special was needed, the only caveat is they don’t stock any hard parts like sector shaft for anything RHD, but all typical rebuild seals and bearings...
Good to know that is was a pretty straightforward process. I have a used steering box on the way and I suspect once it comes in I'll ship it up to Redhead because I think that box is gonna have to get swapped out before long. I won't complain...
Anything special with sending it off to Red Head. Did you send a seal kit with it or other parts or just say please refresh it? Did your box have a leak or just too much play?
Got the steering box back and today in between rain showers got it all back in and drove it around the block! It embarrasses me to say it’s pretty much been a year since this thing ran! But everything checked out well so far. Need to get the...
