It is looking awesome. I take it you are going to paint the roof white/cream? It never dawned on me that my LV roof was not going to be white like almost all Cruisers until I saw that you went with the 35 paint scheme and then it clicked. I am torn bc to me the classic Cruiser look is a white roof and all along that is what I have been envisioning in my pea brain. Are you using an HVLP gun to shoot your paint?

Thanks Mark. Yeah, the roof will be almond like the bottom. The paint is straight out of the rattle can. The technique is to spray towards the overspray, and quickly get wet paint over it. It's much easier to do this with the slow-dry paint. Large areas are more difficult, so we'll see how the hood turns out. I'm getting ready to sand it right now.

Thanks for the clarification. I like the technique.

Between work and reinjuring my lower back (herniated disc), I haven't done nearly as much work on the LV as I had planned at this point, but I've still been working on it as much as possible. Got the fender that Butch donated finished and mounted. It took a lot of work, but turned out way better than I thought it would. Spent the last couple days getting the old LV a little more ready to leave the driveway for the last time.

I just got through reading both the thread on the wreck and this thread on the Phoenix.

Gene, I'm glad you're ok and I agree with everyone in the first thread about the wagon giving it's life for you. From what I have read and seen in pictures of the original I can tell how much you loved that rig. And I am glad to see the Phoenix is on it's way.

To everyone that chipped in to get the Phoenix project under way, I'm glad to call some of you friends, and I'm sure those I have not met I would have no problem doing so. This is what a community is all about, helping others in a time of need. Eric C: for donating the body and frame of the Phoneix, that is no small action. But on a project this big, I don't think there are any small actions.

Nicely done gentlemen. I look forward to seeing the Phoenix in all it's glory at Surf-N-Turf.

And again, Gene I am glad you are alright.

Gene, are you going to be scrapping the old frame? If so I really could use the old steering box mount. I can't seem to find one, or if I do the folks don't seem to follow through.

Are you tossing the old LV sheet metal or are you saving it? I keep seeing less and less and I hope it will be available to other LV's rather than the Chinese steel mills.

The old frame will be headed to Georg soon, so you'll have to ask him about his plans as far as steering. As for the sheet metal, everything I've cut off I still have, but it's twisted beyond use. The only thing left is the rear and I'll be pulling all I can from that because the Phoenix rear end is completely rotted out.

I have or had one bc I cut it off the the new PS unit. I will look for it and let you know.

Great!!

Will you still have it by next summer and if so can I stop by and pick through it? LV sheet metal is not easy to find. If it needs a little "tweaking" I'd rather do that than try to start from square one!!

Once I'm done, I'm gonna send some pics of the left overs to one of our mudders. What he's asked for specifically, I'm probably going to use for the Phoenix, but he did ask first so I'm gonna give him first shot. After that I'll post pics of what is left.

Hey I still have a crap load of photos from the build so when can I start posting them ???? I want to put them in an album and then post the web site

Is it going to make it to Surf n Turf?

Nope. I was at Gene's for an hour and a half Sunday on my way back from Red Rock. He's still working on painting the hood. Still hasn't got to the doors. And none of the mechanical re-do's have been touched. I'm thinking of heading back over there with some tools a couple of weeks after SnT to see what we can 'knock out' together.

Gene said he is still planning to try and make it to SNT in the Xterra. Send him some encouragement!

thought the restauration is finished,...
...he only still seeks 2 new wiper blades :D
