Gene..

You have a bunch of people that are willing to help you.

Have you done the floors yet?

It does not really take any money.. Just some time and willingness to let others help (some more ;) )

haul that truck to D'animals house and get Chris to weld in the new floor that can be sent to you..

I am willing to bet that others would pitch in to help get it running sooner than later.

Cool part is that I get to volunteer everyone else's help :D

Don't let the momentum fade...

Thanks Mace. Stumbaugh offered to show me how to weld, and Chris offered to help me complete the floors and rear. I've been so busy taking care of things at home, that I haven't called either of them yet. I haven't slowed the momentum, but life keeps getting in the way of working on the wagon... especially with three teenagers. Actually, the bib is off and sanded, and will be painted along with the roof this Saturday. Sunday I'm back on the fenders after church. There still is a lot to do and I can't hurry it. That's just how I do it. I'd rather do it right, once. My plan is to get it finished from the front doors forward, and then make a plan for the floors and rear and be able to drive it to work on it. But just to clarify, I'm still on this and really happy with how it's turning out.

Hey guys,
Hope you all has a blast at the 45Run. I spent some good time this weekend working on the LV. I've got the driverside fender and hood to paint and the front end is finished. Here's some crappy night pics. Sorry, but I just got in from working on it. I'll post some better quality pics tomorrow.

Lookin friggin awesome Gene. What a difference and s*** load of work will do. What kind of paint are using again. Isn't that a custom mix?

Thanks Kellyo. The bottom paint is Rustoleum almond and the green is a custom color I had mixed. Both are the 7-9 hour dry. They go on a lot smoother than the 15 minute dry.

The license plate is an original from Japan. Steve kopito gave it to me when I bought my first LV from him.

Here's some daylight pics.

Kinda neat how you reversed the paint scheme from the old one to the new one.

I just figured since I'm going FJ35, I might as well go all out for the authentic paint scheme too.

Gene, Looking Great!!!
Spelling is Kopito (not Kapito) Sorry to nitpick!!

Hope you get that baby driving soon...

I just spent the day reading this entire thread, the original thread of the accident and some on pirate4x4. Something an old friend used to say came to mind. When describing someone he trusted and he could rely on he would say they were "good people".

You guys are all good people.

P.S. - Don't tell my boss I was reading the forum all day!:D

Thanks Steve, fixed it. If I get to work on it as much as I have been lately, I should have the body painted inside and out back to the "C" pillar and be driving it in about 3 weeks.

Yep. It all still blows my mind. I love having a wagon to work on again. Thanks so much guys.

X2. Love the choice and the reversal of the usual paint scheme.

Tell us more about your paint. How you do it, what it is, etc. It looks very nice.

When I bought the black paint for the frame, I just grabbed what I thought was the typical Rustoleum 15 minute dry spray paint. As soon as I sprayed it I could tell there was a difference in the paint, and that's when I saw it was - dry to touch in 2 hours / completely dry in 7-9 hours. What I noticed with the new paint is that it was a lot easier to blend sections together and not show the dull of overspray, and it had a much better gloss than the quick dry paint. I like it so much that I bought the same paint in white for the body. I couldn't find a real off-white in this paint (like the "Ford Wimbledon White" that I used on the first LV), so I used the Rustoleum "Almond". As you can see it's a real creamy white but I think it gives off even more of a vintage look. I used a stock color 'cause it's great paint and dirt cheap - only $3.97 a can.

I had a can of the Plasti-kote Olive-Drab Camo #17035 left over from painting the first LV, so I took it in to a near by paint store and had them match it in a GLOSSY 9 hour dry paint. What I picked up was made by Krylon and is called OMNI PAK "MasterBlend EZ TOUCH / The Superior Solvent Blend to be used with Enamels, Lacquers, Vinyls, Acrylics". This stuff goes on even smoother than the Rustoleum and has a brighter gloss at only $6.65 a can for a custom mix. Both paints will not run as easy as the quick dry either.

As far as how and where I'm painting it, I'm hosing down the ground around the LV and spraying it in the driveway. It's all the room I've got... the garage is packed with parts.

Tomorrow I paint the blower unit black, and then prime and get the first coat of Almond on the driver fender. I pulled the blower unit apart last night and 220 sanded all of the rust off of it. Found more mud-wasp nests inside it. It should look new when I'm done.

Hey what piece am I missing between the blower unit intake and the vent screen on the body?
