I see the sledgehammer in the back. You just needed a bigger hammer.
Heh I ended up finding my pblaster and soaked the seam and then getting an extension for my socket and using one of the clamp style oil filter removers

I cut the brake line tab off my old axle and welded it onto the new one. Drivers side knuckle parts have been blasted, primed, and painted. Things are coming along.....

Is there a trick to reattaching the linkage arm to the windshield wipers on 40's? My drivers side came off and I can't get it to seat back onto the post.

Thinking I need to do a better job compressing the piston and open the bleeder valve and/or reservoir cap
Did you check the slides for caliper if they were greased and moving freely? I had a similar issue on the Avalon when I did the brakes and couldn't get it to not feel like there was contact. Ended up just being those sliding pins or whatever they are that needed greasing as well.

I didn’t disassemble them but that’s on my list of things to check. I didn’t have any syl-glide on hand.

Disassembled and used a C clamp I picked up. Guess the screw driver method wasn’t cutting it

Front RCI skid installed... pretty easy. Down the line adding other RCI skids. My factory skids are pretty mangled- even worn through in a couple spots. The gas tank skid is especially bad. The RCI skids look really solid but I may want to upgrade the hardware at some point... I also found this vacant “parking” area owned by a neighbor in the alley behind my place to do the work. Hoping I can rent it and clear it for wrenching. Gonna leave him a note and see what happens 🙂

Does anyone know if I should try to keep the plastic guard that goes from the bumper to the skid plate? It wont bolt to the new skid plate but it can be attached at the bumper and I can just trim off the tabs? Will it keep mud out of the radiator or otherwise be of value? Circled in red...

I’d trim it and leave it for the splash guard aspect
Just played around with it and decided to leave it off because it ends up hanging down and will get caught on stuff when backing up on a trail- looks like it would get hooked and rip the bumper off. Ill run without it for now.

Installed a new negative battery cable/ground wire I had sitting around for years.
14mm bolt to the side of the block, 10mm bolt to body.

The bolt/washer to the block was rusty. I took some sandpaper to where it attached to the block, and to the attached washer on the 14 mm bolt, for better contact.

I suggest folks inspect the ground to the block and remove any rust that may have occurred under the washer, to the battery cable.
