Well, today is the day I’m going to cut my old bent axle housing, remove the birf, and start building up the new axle. Will provide pics periodically for your entertainment.

If you cut it cleanly and in a good spot you could use it to make a sweet bar table for the man cave or garage. Axle width is 55” and bar tables are usually 40-42”

Last summer, we took a road trip to the beach with friends and the truck sagged hitting the rubber helper springs on medium-ish bumps on the highway. It wasn’t horrible but not great— the one downside of a non-AHC truck. Faced with the need to tow the FJ62 earlier this year to @OTRAMM I wasn’t confident in the 100 doing based on that road trip experience.

It probably would have been fine but I wimped
out and rented a uhaul truck in addition to a trailer. I’ve towed that much weight before but never when it was close to or slightly over the limits of the tow vehicle.

So this is my solution because I didn’t want to loose the buttery ride by adding heavier duty springs as the truck is empty most of the time. I love that I can dial up the stiffness in 5 minutes with a bike pump. Elegant and ghetto at the same time 😂

I know I’ll sacrifice some flex but this is how the truck is usually used.View attachment 2269320

Didn’t get to test it yet because of the wheel stud issue...womp womp.

Update us on how those hold up in a few months. I'm going to put those in my GX when I do a coil swap. Apparently I can keep the stock air suspension in the rear that levels the car with those bags. Rear air is super nice when towing or loading heaving things into the back

Made the cut and the birf slid right out. Pulled the diff and everything looks normal so far. Going to test fit the diff and birf’s into the new housing and if everything is good I’ll start wire wheeling the new housing to prep for prime and paint. Going with metal etching primer followed by flat black tractor and implement paint from tractor supply.

Blame the tire shop... They probably cranked them on there. 85ftlbs is all they take.
This truck probably hasn’t been to a tire shop in forever. The DOT codes on the tires I took off were from 2010...

New axle down to bare metal. If I wasn’t under lockdown I definitely would have outsourced this job to a media blasting company. Going to get it primed and first coat of paint on today. Then assemble my new blasting cabinet and work on getting the small parts blasted and painted.

Can someone please tell this how to find parts diagrams with part numbers? I have a flexible brake hose I am trying to figure where it goes. If I go to ToyotaPartsDeal.com for instance, I can easily find it by part number but the only description is "flexible brake hose." How on can I pull up a diagram with a part number?

You can change the region if you’re looking for something that may have be ROW only.

Make sure you have the right FJ40 variant but here’s how awesome it is...

If you click on the part number in the diagram it will highlight it on the list on the right.

Do you guys have this tab welded on top of your front pumpkin? My new axle doesn’t have it, and it’s where the T-fitting for the front brake lines bolts on and then goes up into the chassis. Is there something I’m missing here? Wondering if I have to cut it off the old axle and weld it onto the new one?

Cool thanks, looks like I’m going to have to cut it off my old axle and weld it to the new one. No biggie....

Got my new media blasting cabinet up and running and blasted my knuckles clean. Did you guys know that a date is cast into the knuckles? Mine is consistent with the build date of my truck....
