Ya BMX bikes are the way to go. you can ride in and out of cars fast, hop up curbs, and its much easier to run away from the cops! haha. Gears, i dont need no stinkin gears... i can ride 40 miles in SF with a bmx. You ol folks need to get in shape :grinpimp:

What he said. I ride about 10 miles a night with a 32 tooth sprocket at full crank about 85% of the time and I don't have any problems.

I am 16, but age is not a factor!!!

2007 Transition Dirtbag
Freeride bike. Tons of fun.

2007 Raleigh XXiX+G 29er hard tail.

And a 1998 Gary Fisher Mt Tam that I have converted into a single speed. (no pic sorry)

I am working on getting a full on DH machine. I keep drooling over a Ventana El Cuervo.

WTF? When did we get a biking forum. Cool. This is a repost-post from another thread:

First picture from left to right:

1. Gary Fisher Procaliber circa 1991 currently sporting 1 1/4 slicks
2. Santa Cruz Blur circa 2006. The bike I ride the most often. It's a sweet ride.
3. Kestrel 200 SC circa 1991 with Kestrel EMS fork and Campy Chorus triple 9 speed
4. Binanchi Axis circa 1990. It's a road bike with cantilever brakes--pseudo cyclocross bike
5. Schwinn Madison circa 1980-something with custom paint. It's a fixed gear, but I want to add a rear brake and make it a single speed (I'm getting too old for fixed gear) (actually since I first posted this I have installed a rear brake, a free-hub gear and different handle bars).

Second picture:

6. Bontrager Privateer circa 1999. XT components and Marzocchi shock. I'm thinking about selling this one...

Ya, where did this bike forum come from? To answer the question (don't laugh) ...

MTB: Giant ATX 750 mostly used for commuting with some off pavement. A tank it is but it gets me to work and back.

Road: a 30 year old Nishiki Pro that I bought in college. Love that bike with it's steel Campy headset and down tube shifters (old school). At least I upgraded most of the hardware 10 years ago, except I'm still running a freewheel instead of a cassette, on silky smooth Phil Wood hubs. :grinpimp:

I bought this Rocky Mountain Element 50 last January. It's got 4" of travel front and rear and is extremely stable through the rough and steep stuff! You know what that means? I hammer on this bike! I've been mountain biking since
1996, and this bike by far is the best I've ever ridden.

I upgraded the wheel set to CK disc hubs and also added a CK head set. I switched to an XT rear cog and traded saddles on this twice. The one on the bike was from my old Gary Fisher Super Caliber hard tail, but now have a new Selle Italia light gel seat.

frame set....

Kind of a spur of the moment budget build. Started out as a spare wheelset for my other bike, has now morphed into a SS 29er build. I'll *hopefully* post pics of the finished product this weekend.

Hey guys just noticed this forum! Very cool rides, I have several, not pictured is a Kona Stinky

I should have it buttoned down by Friday. Heading out of state to ride on Sunday, it should be a blast! My first SS on a trail that I've never ridden before.... I'm going to get pwnd.

Ha. I looked at the pics first and wondered WTF with the steerer tube? And then I read it was just for mock. What crank are you going to use? And sorry if I missed it, but how much was the frame?

Looks swanky. Good luck with the pwnage :hillbilly:

'08 MC Flight 29er
King Headset
Xt hubs laced to dual duty rims
Stylos 1.1 crank set (not yet installed)
Thomson set back seat post
Titec hellbent stem
Surly Torsion bar
Free Shimano Deore M515 mech discs
Avid SD7 levers
Brooks Saddle

Those Deore brakes weigh about a pound a piece... I'll order some BB7's before too long. I got the frameset, headset and cranks for $425. All brand new and never built. All told, I have about $750 in the build not counting freebies and my old Brooks.

I ride my single speed "PUSS"

Nice! Do you like that really bent over position? I'd go with riser bars of some kind.

My google search for "surly torsion bar" turned up this picture. LOL.

They were the ones that sold it to me.

we'll see how it rides. This is the first flat bar I've had in about a decade, so i don't know whether I like it or not yet. I left a bit more length on the steerer tube to compensate and the stem has an 8 degree rise. It feels comfortable testing it out. I'll be able to tell you more Sunday evening after putting some miles on it. I wanted big sweep. I couldn't find a Salsa 17 degree moto ace (also flat) and I've heard too many bad things about big guys snapping Mary bars/Space Bars and the like....
