tcb--sweet Redline. Nice ride.
I plan to change my Kona over to 1x8 as soon as my back allows me to. I run the On One as either SS or 1x8, depending on season and fitness...
My backpack probably weighed 20 lbs today with bike tools, lunch box, suit, shirt, tie, dress shoes, belt, etc... It definitely increased the wind resistance to a point that I could feel it.
I might make this a weekly or twice a week thing. It was pretty fun. I could have left my house 30 minutes later and still been the first one in the offfice, but I wanted to take my time and try not to sweat.
You could drive in Monday with all you need for T, W, Th, then pick it all up on Friday.
I have Biopace on my Cannondale ST500. I need to replace them as they are about worn out.1989 Nishiki Sport

I've been riding this to work the last few months. I think it's a 1972. I took off the derailleurs and shifters and have been riding it as a single speed.
I commuted to work on my 29er today for s***s and giggles.... made it in about 25 minutes. 6.1 miles. Didn't push too hard because I don't have a shower at the office. I'll be pedaling all out on my way home today to see how long it takes me to get there.. I'm thinking it'll be similar in time to my commute by auto.

find a set of rims on craig's and mount slicks on them. Your new off road tires will last a lot longer.
