H-bar is flat as well, is it not? The Surly is Chromo, which I dig.

EDIT: also a consideration for me right now on this build was the fact that the Titec version of the H-Bar is $85 online... the actual jones version probably an untold fawkbillions of dollars. If I was going to ride $100 bars, I'd have some Groovy Luv Handles built up. http://groovycycleworks.com/extras.aspx

EDIT 2: Holy Sweet Jesus, Jeff Jones wants $550 for those bars new... WOW!

Ride review:

The bike is quick, agile, and fairly light. The rider is not in as good a shape as he thought he was.

My legs are jelly today after doing 15 miles on the Flight yesterday. But I really enjoyed it. It should definitely make me a much stronger rider. All in all, I give it two thumbs up!

Great thread...

Mine

Litespeed Vortex - All Dura Ace
Lemond Steelie
Santcruz Epic - All XTR
Electra Rat Fink

Also for you Century riders I would like to promote the Century ride that I have put together over the last 4 years. I have ridden alot of centuries and I (and most that have ridden it) believe it is the most MOST BEAUTIFUL CENTURY IN AMERICA...

Please check it out and plan your schedule to be in Southern Oregon next August

Check out the ride at www.craterlakecentury.com

This was too good a deal to pass up. So I jumped on the SS bandwagon :grinpimp:

So far all I've done is remove stickers, swap pedals to Egg Beaters and found a good home for my bash guard.

Nice.. another Redline on the board. That bike is the best value in MTB. So what all upgrades did the p.o. do? I can see bb5 or 7's, LX crank, and a non OEM seat.

I'll have to look at the OEM specs to figure out everything but the brakes were upgraded to Avid 5 mechanicals. He said the seat was original, its a Bontrager and is surprisingly comfortable.

My ride Sunday was awesome. I had to fight harder to keep my usual lines and pace, but the 29 inch wheels are a big help when you have momentum. The fully rigid ride was new to me also, I think it would have been better if I let some air out of the tires. But anything is better than the blown fork on my Fisher.

The seat is not OEM, I promise... OEM is Redline brand, made by Velo. But, that bike has a hell of a reputation on mtbr.

I've gone back to the stock bars and saddle on it and put the saddle on my SS until I can peel off another $100 for a brooks to put back on it. It's pretty much been relegated to commuter duty unless I am heading somewhere that I need gears. I fell in love with the d440 and what started out as a spare wheelset wound up turning into another Redline... :o

actually miss my first ss, the kona..
it had chris king bb hubs that made enough noise to make people pull over on a descent to let ya pass ....totally confused as to what the hell that sweet noise was!
classic!
Later
Ryan
