Been following them for awhile, and have been in contact with their first US distributor in AZ. I plan to get a set!

That's Bad A**

74 Weld also said they were making a set for the 200 series. ~$20k for a set.

20k?! Thats extremely competitive compared to the werewolf offering since they'll charge 2k on top of the 17k for shipping!!

Basing that off the price for their other sets for the Tacoma and Bronco. They could be more.

Werewolf are a copy of Tibus older generation portal axles Home - https://www.tibus-offroad.com/en
Titus has been around for years in the LR Defender and MB world and proven durability. I have not seen the same from werewolf portals with several sets on LR platforms having extreme wear issues.
They do make IFS portals as well, but probably has not been a demand for them, but they may have an application for the 200 or can make one.

Anyway they are all expensive and at that price range, you might as well go with the company that is known for them and has proven round the world durability.

My 2 cents... I don't own any. but if I wanted 37-40"s on my D90 I would go Tibus.

74 WELD portals look awesome and US made. Started with race portals for KOH and then migrated to consumer rigs.

I have been talking to Wolfworx and Matrix Integrated as well and they estimated current shipping and duties closer to $5K now. I'm definitely doing a kit once I finish everything else I'd like to do first and they estimated $5K shipping/duties and 32hrs of labor on top of your kit cost

32 hours of labor is insane, it's not that serious of an install

Honest question: other than maybe deep mud, what is anyone doing in a 200 that needs portals, where the dramatically increased CoG isn’t a detriment to off-road performance?

I do see the merit in gaining ground clearance while reducing suspension lift, which maintains down travel. But as someone that has flopped a mildly lifted 80 with nothing on the roof, CoG is high on my list of things not to mess with.

While I tend to agree on LC200s not running hardcore trails as often.

Portals usually give around 4" of lift, slightly more than a typical LC lift. I don't think stock axles are a significant impact on the rig CoG and that is all you are raising with portals compared to a standard lift. The benefits are:

- reduced CV angles
- reduced driveshaft angles
- reduced load on drivetrain
- gearing reduction at the wheel
- stock suspension geometry
- significantly more ground clearance
- cool factor

Drawbacks:

- price
- some change in steering angles, possible scrub radius change, etc
- increased track width
- additional maintenance items

I'm not sure if any of these portal companies have this as an option, but with portals it makes it easier to have a central tire inflation system.

You‘re not wrong that higher CoG is a concern—you do get a wider track width to help with stability. For me where I go to the offroad parks around me and up in the Ozarks there is tons of mud and at the parks specifically a heavy emphasis of rock crawling for buggies. The closest park to me seems to have way more trails for buggies than anything else and it’s pretty boring running the same stuff over and over. Portals would let me start getting a bit more frisky on some more serious rocks.

Not sure about the upcoming 74Weld kit, but Werewolf is happy to sell you a CTIS kit for an additional $2k that works with theirs

32 Hrs of labor is a pretty extreme estimate. but then again you are removing everything from the CV shaft out and replacing it. IDK.. in a defender 16 hours maybe, probably more like a solid day unless you are running CTIS which Tibus also offers.

5K?/set ... yeah werewolf and hope it lasts but last set I saw was straight cut dog gears, which is why it failed. Stripped out the center two gears, and jammed with metal. it was in the snow in Maine, so we figured out the failure and put it back together enough to drive in 3wd..

Tibus is 20K last I looked with CTIS and wheels..

5K/set and reusing Toyota wheels and brakes, I'd be game. Easy way to run 37-40"s
which would be kinda stupid fun.

The $5k was freight shipping and import duties from the Ukraine to get it here—Werewolf kits for the 200 series are $17k.

To be fair the 32hours of labor was quoted by the shop who just did a Werewolf install on a G Wagen and they did say that was taking time and doing it meticulously. There is a small bit of welding required for bracing, but it’s nothing too serious.

I’m actually super curious about the 74Weld kit—at $20k it would be cheaper than importing a Werewolf kit and USA made with USA support network and from on a company that originally made portals for race trucks.
