I own a 91 fj 80 LC with 90,000 mi all stock rebuilt front axle, steering gear box, power steer pump, starter, and alt. just need to fix exhaust leak and it should sound alot better. I know you all know this but the lc is one vehicle built for off roading from the get go! I plan on lifting to fit 33s-35s, Im thinking a 4" from slee or 3.5 from ome. Cant make up my decision What do you guys think? I also like some pics on rigs w/o fender flares cause my fj is going through paint right now. Just want to get an idea of how it would look w/o flares and 33s or 35s. Thanks!

Man you are lucky 90,000 miles!! Here is a few pics of my 91..

Similar color scheme

FWIW, I'm running 4 inches of lift and 315's. The tire barely stick out past the fender and with some adj. panhards they wont at all.

Here is mine, and I was really concerned how it would look with the side protection on the rear bumper but I am cool with it. But flareless is the way to go, if you can afford to do the body work I would go that route but the Durabak works too.

as far as your suspension you had in mind, cant go wrong w/ a little of both; im running the slee 4'' up front and J's in the rear and 35's but with flares. Here is a pic of my roomates w/ the med. rear and j front setup and 315 terra grapplers flareless.

I'm not wild about the flare less look. Here are some shots of brother Brian's rig, OME heavy, 1.25" front spacers and Nitto 315's.

Is there much of a performance function gained over removing the flares? I'm assuming more clearance for tire rub? Anyone have measurements? And I guess they aren't sticking out the side grabbing rocks and stuff... But is this just more of a form-over-function type thing...?--As in, is it just for looks?

Cause it's funny how a lot of 80s dudes wanna take their OEM flares off and a ton of 60s dudes would KILL to have the OEM fender flares on their trucks.

I dig my fender flares.

I dig the flares on an 80. Trouble is that most of us are going down trails made for jeeps and that extra width scrapes and gets torn off. At least that's my story and I'm stickin' to it :)

Yup, the 80's guys make them look like (rounded off) 60's buy removing the flares and the 60's guys add flares to upgrade to the (squared off) 80's look. Just look at either version while squinting really hard. Flares are just bling to me. I guess others feel that way about straight sheet metal, I am starting to get there.
