There is truth to that, but I think there's a lot more to it. Example: what about the demand in the US for diesel engined 'Cruisers? Yet no supply for this market. Another example: does Toyota realize that the demand for a late 40 series steering wheel is such that new OEM ones that show up on Ebay sell for more than $800? Then there are power sterring parts for 40 series, which would have no trouble selling I'm sure if they were stocked. For certain parts, like a speedometer, I'd pay well over list price for a mint or new one if I could find one, and i'm sure i'm not the only one who would pony up mucho dinero for certain now-unobtanium parts. Seems like there is plenty of demand to me in certain areas. I think more to the point is that Toyota discontinues parts support for vehicles as it costs them money to stock the parts, and they would prefer you bought a new vehicle from them instead of nursing an old rig along.
