LITP,
It appears the top door corner seals were 79-later:

Compatibility Info:
Part No. 65888-90302 fits the vehicle applications listed below:
Land Cruiser 1980.08-1984.10 6cyl 4.2L VKC
Land Cruiser 1980.08-1984.10 6cyl 4.2L TPS
Land Cruiser 1979.03-1980.07 6cyl 4.2L V
Land Cruiser 1979.03-1980.07 6cyl 4.2L TP

Any idea what years these used. I don't believe the earlier years had them. ..

65888-90302 - March 1979 onwards
65889-90302 - ditto
65898-90301 - Feb 1978 onwards
65899-90301 - ditto

I assume the 78 and newer were the back pads. 79 and newer is the front which is when the one piece of the header changed. I believe the couple of FJ40 I got the newer headers off were 80 models. Can you confirm the 79 date for the header change? Also does it show any pad between the header and windshield?

Actually my post is misleading.

Looking at Toyota's database again I now see 65888-90300 applying way back in July 1972 and 65898-90300 similarly. (They may even go back further.)

Similarly 65889-90300 and 65899-90300 go back in time to July 1972 or further.

That's the trouble with doing searches on Part Numbers .... When Toyota makes a minor change to a part, they change the part number by one digit and a search on that latter number will tell only when it was introduced.

So it looks like these rubber packings have been around for donks and aren't actually just restricted to later models at all.

Providing info from searches like this may make me look knowledgeable .. but in fact the search results are often pretty useless as this proves :o

how about these i no they are not rare but how many people have seen OEM

I have - when we rebuilt the knuckles - on my truck :D

I guess I need to start a running list. Put in an order for some of the OEM door corner seals and the tire carrier rubber and couldn't come up with a couple more things and now you guys show me more stuff I'd like to have. Arggghhhhhh!!!! :D

Compared to 4 years ago when i last rebuilt my truck, when I found about 85% of the OEM parts I wanted were delisted, now I am finding it is more like 95% of the parts are delisted. Doors and other body panels are gone, patch panels are gone, many engine parts are no longer supported, etc. We seem to be entering a transition point where the majority of parts are going to have to come from the aftermarket, and frankly I have found most of the aftermarket parts to be inferior to OEM, so I am not encouraged.

You guys should make this a sticky/faq. I'll volunteer my services to check the availability for the part numbers.

Nothing ever gets made an FAQ any more - that's just a dangling carrot.

I wonder though, would it be possible to somehow do a detailed search on the database for every 40 series part number? It might turn up the odd unexpected gem. I just get the part numbers off of ToyDiy and call up my local dealer, or dealers in other countries, though the 'delisted' word is getting kind of old by this point.

What parts were not available? I sell a ****ton of 40 parts and I am constantly surprised at what IS available. Obviously body parts are going to be gone by the way side long ago but moldings, gaskets, engine parts, driveline stuff, etc, is usually pretty good. You have to keep in mind also that if this was a Ford or Chevy product it would have been disco'd 30 years ago. Toyota has done an outstanding job IMO with keeping up.

Yeah, the local Toyota dealer is also a Ford dealership, and the parts guy said that Ford was far worse for stocking old parts. Toyota is still stocking some of the critical parts to keep a truck rolling down the road, which is awesome, but a lot of the trim and cosmetic parts are disappearing fast. I'm building up some new doors and you know there were only 2 door glass panels in the country when i checked two weeks ago (and i bought them). This morning i checked on a piece of foam rubber used to dampen the rattle from the door opening mechanism and there were two in country (which I snapped up). Part number 69759-30021. The other three items i was looking for were delisted, like the door handle retainer 69233-90800

How about a '80~'84 speedometer? Steering wheel?

Disco.

I'm sure most know this but I'm sure there are some that don't. They base the restocking, manufacturing, discontinuing, etc on demand. The steering wheel for example, probably was not a very popular sales item, and so they are disco. :meh:

OTOH if we were discussing BMW or Mercedes, all these parts would still be available.
The prices would be shocking, but at least the factory would still make them if we asked.

There is truth to that, but I think there's a lot more to it. Example: what about the demand in the US for diesel engined 'Cruisers? Yet no supply for this market. Another example: does Toyota realize that the demand for a late 40 series steering wheel is such that new OEM ones that show up on Ebay sell for more than $800? Then there are power sterring parts for 40 series, which would have no trouble selling I'm sure if they were stocked. For certain parts, like a speedometer, I'd pay well over list price for a mint or new one if I could find one, and i'm sure i'm not the only one who would pony up mucho dinero for certain now-unobtanium parts. Seems like there is plenty of demand to me in certain areas. I think more to the point is that Toyota discontinues parts support for vehicles as it costs them money to stock the parts, and they would prefer you bought a new vehicle from them instead of nursing an old rig along.
