OME shackle/pin zerk thread

Hence why I wanted pictures ;) Those don't look like any of the OME stuff I've dealt with in the last 10-15 years... not to say they are absolutely not as I don't have intimate knowledge with their real early stuff. They do however look a lot like some of the import aftermarket greasable stuff, including models we carry at the shop. I've not tried to track down a zerk for one in the recent past and I'm out of the office on a bus trip. I'll message my office manager Bryce to check a size... might have to wait til I get back on Monday. We may have the OME replacements back in stock by Monday too :D

Thanks Kurt. Hopefully the zerks arriving today will get the job done and I'll be on my way with these mystery shackles. I saw the truck this suspension was on before it came off and it was sitting nice and level (except a little rake that my load will take care of).

As usual, those u-bolts you sent arrived lickety-split.

Glad to hear!

Just went through this with my new OME Dakar 2.5" install. Broke one of the grease fittings as I installed it. I thought I was being gentle...

Found an 8 piece Metric grease fitting at Autozone. GF08-02. Matches up perfect.

Fitting Thread Size: M6-1.00mm. Hex socket size 8mm.

Bringing this thread back. Anybody know what size fitting this is. Is M6-1.00mm the proper size?

Having trouble getting new grease to push old out. I’ve swapped the Zerk but still not taking new grease. Before I run a torch nearby the fitting to liquefy some old junk, where will I expect old to push out? Just adjacent to the zerk or at edge of bushing?

Has any one came up with a solution for the Dobinson greaseable spring pin on a late model 60? @crikeymike

The upper rear left zerk is blocked by the stock exhaust.

Initially I thought a 90 degree zerk would work but it appears a bit too short to clear the protective nut collar. Is there a 90 degree zerk with a tall post that could fit this application?

Also I thought the zerks would be M6 based on this thread but it appears it might be M8 x 1.0 as it has a 10mm hex head.

Can anyone confirm what they used for this application?

Thanks

That rear most exhaust hanger is easy enough to unbolt, just disconnect and pry the exhaust slightly out of the way momentarily while you grease the pin.

Trying to avoid that.
Before I replaced the broken forward exhaust hangar that would have been easy to do but with it replaced with a new one, there is not enough flex to give room for a grease gun fitting to get in there.

I just installed a Dobby's lift kit on another 60 a few weeks ago, I would swap the rear shackles so the greasable fittings are on the outside of the shackles. That's how we did it and there are no access problems for the zerks that way.

EDIT: Disregard my advice, looks like they're already that way. I forgot that the 60 I did the lift on doesn't have much of a tailpipe left..

I found two options at Ace Hardware

I confirmed that the Dobinson zerk grease fitting is M8 x 1.0 thread pitch

Here are the options. I'll try them later today to see what works best. My bet is on the 45 degree one

The 90 degree zerk was too short.

The 45 degree cleared the zerk from the edge of the nut but not by enough to allow a standard grease gun to attach.

I tried two of my needle adapter but they aren't getting the grease inside. They are cheap ones, I probably need a good quality one.

I may just remove the protective nut and grind it down as I haven't been able to find any taller M8x1.0 zerks

This zerk has a 7mm hex head and the 45 degree adapter has a 9mm hex head vs. the Dobinson zerk with a 10mm hex head

I just went ahead and ground down the nut for clearance. The standard grease gun fitting now works.

Stuck it on the old u-bolt and ground it down about half depth of the non-threaded portion.

Anyway hope this helps someone.

Dobinson should really include a shallow nut for this reason and a 45 degree zerk.
