Anybody know what the thread is on these zerks? I bought a used suspension and it looks like a PO used a few of the zerks as contact points to pound the pins in. The hex size of these zerks is 10mm and the thread appears to be tapered (it looks close to a 1/8 npt, but a 1/8 npt zerk doesn't fit the pins). The zerks on the shackles with thread (loosely) into an M10-1.0, but again I think I'm actually dealing with a tapered thread. McMaster doesn't list a zero with a 10mm hex size in any thread type.

Not sure of the size but I broke one when installing my ome kit. They sell them at oreilly's. It must be standard type of zirk. It came in a pack of 10 or so

I think mine were 1/4-20. I broke one when I was tightening it with a 3/8 drive ratchet :bang:

Definitely not a 1/4-20. It's much bigger than that, like I said, it's close to a 1/8 NPT or M10-1.0. I don't know the vintage of this kit, so it could be they changed to zerk thread at some point.

Yeah, checked O'Reilly's (and everyplace else). They only had 1/4-28 (SAE-LT), 1/8 NPT, and M8-1.0.

Found some metric seemingly straight threaded zerks at Ace that were labeled M10-1.0, but they wouldn't thread in more than about 3/4 of a turn suggesting that perhaps they lacked the DIN taper. McMaster says the metric zerks they sell are DIN tapered so I might order some of those to try if I can't get a definitive answer or I can't get original equipment from Kurt or ARB. Would suck to have a goddamned 11mm nut on the truck, but I need to get this put together.

Ok, whatever it was, I bought a pack of assorted zircs at O Reilly's and it was in there.

The size of the hex on the zirc is a 5/16, I just went out and checked on my front spring.

I just remembered, all the hardware on my kit was American standard, not metric. I was annoyed that it mixed hardware on my truck.

Hmmm. Wonder if they were doing SAE hardware at some point for the US market? I just checked all mine and it's all metric: shackle and pin bolts, unbolts, zerks, sway bar extenders.

I'd guess metric. That which seems 5/16 is 8mm , that which seems 1/4" is 6mm
Here's a great site for metric. They also carry what's known as "reduced head" nuts and bolts which
is what Toyota uses. 10mm bolts with a 14mm head instead of the domestically common 17mm head

The saga continues. I phoned ARB yesterday and the guy couldn't tell me the thread, but did offer to drop half a dozen zerks in the mail for free. I got home today and tore open the envelope to find that they aren't even close. They look like an M6 or 1/4-28 SAE-LT. It appears that ARB changed the zerks on their shackles at some point. I have no idea what the vintage of this suspension is.

Next step is to order the M10-1.0 DIN zerks from McMaster and hope that's the one. If not, I'm stumped. Hours of scouring the interwebs has revealed no other thread type on a zerk that's currently manufactured. Unless it's 1/8 BSPT....

Got any pics?

I can't think of an M10 zerk on OME stuff in fact I can't think of anything but the M6 stuff they currently use... then again it's late :D

We had a few boxes of the M6? (can't remember but that sounds about right) spares but are out now, our fastener company should have us a few more boxes in another week or two. That said, these are definitely the smaller ones and won't do you any good. Tried your local auto parts store? A handful of our local stores carry M6x1 and M8x1 zerks... I know AutoZone has em both.

What year approximately are the springs?
I have a late 90's OZ set on my other chassis. I could pull a zerk.

im having the same trouble - used ome lift but not real old and the zerks got scraped off and bent by someone dragging the springs on the pavement looks like - so i called a week ago to ARB and Cruiser Outfitters with no luck - ARB tech did send me new zerks but they are the wrong size also -- i know i used a 7mm socket to remove the old ones - 6mm was too small - 10mm is for the front of the spring pin that with the bracket that attatches to the frame -- autozone and advance auto do not carry the 7mm -- i got fustrated and tried to just use what ARB sent but now i broke one off trying to get the one in -- so i think im going to rethread for the size they sent me if i can figure that out so i want have to buy a tone of zerks for just 8 i need and not have to spend $20 to get a assortment of zerks i will never use -- unless we can find a group buy for some of the correct size

Here's some pics. The M6 from ARB is there for comparison. I've got some M10-1.0 DIN and 1/8 BSPT coming from McMaster. Should be here tomorrow.

Hmmm... Maybe they're not OME pins and shackles? The springs are and the shocks and steering stabilizer are, so I assumed the PO had purchased the complete kit. Also, it's all metric so I don't think it's U.S. manufacture. Old style maybe?

I found my replacement zerk at Ace. Pulled one of my existing ones, took it in and found a nut to match, then found one of their zerks to match that nut. Until I needed one I had no idea there was such a wide variety. Took a while but worked out good. Sorry I can't remember the size...

Is the 1/8 npt tight or loose in the existing threaded hole? If tight I'd quit beating my head against the wall and re-thread the holes to 1/8 npt. If loose PM me.

Aren't all NPT fittings are tapered (vs say -AN fittings?)
Take to lowes and try threading into brass plumbing to find size.

1/8 npt threads in about 3/4 turn. I'm gonna see what the metric and british threads I've got coming from McMaster do for me. I'd prefer not to hack it if I can help it.

Hence why I wanted pictures ;) Those don't look like any of the OME stuff I've dealt with in the last 10-15 years... not to say they are absolutely not as I don't have intimate knowledge with their real early stuff. They do however look a lot like some of the import aftermarket greasable stuff, including models we carry at the shop. I've not tried to track down a zerk for one in the recent past and I'm out of the office on a bus trip. I'll message my office manager Bryce to check a size... might have to wait til I get back on Monday. We may have the OME replacements back in stock by Monday too :D
