Hi it's been a while without posting, hope to have some time soon to organize and post the re-build of my 80, but could not wait to show up latest mod, 37 x 12.5 17 Maxxis Trepadors, had to get some 17 inch wheels and found a good deal on some 120 series OEM wheels, they are 17 x 7.5 which are not the ideal/recommended width for those tires but I like the look so I think I will stick with them, I'm using OME L shocks with J springs, front 1 inch spring spacers, due to backspacing of the wheels had to use 1 inch wheel spacers, no rubbing, here some pics (had them installed yesterday and could not wait going to test them today in a trail)

pretty common on Venezuelan 80 pre 2002 ( Autanas )

Like the look of the prado wheels on the 80 .. !

ALVARO,
I love the way it turned out... She looks huge!!!I bet you were happy to wheel with her new stance?? Congrats amigo quedo del p***s!!!

Thanks! agree with you on the Venezuelan 80s but mine isn't, it's a Japanese VX (recently deflared). Cheers.

my bad ... we got those also .. wife FZJ80 have one of those rears .. I suppose yours was Venezuelan one coz you have plenty of those ..

i finally had to concede the point and drop the rear bumpstops just a bit. with the BS and the side lugs on these rockers i just couldnt clear the quarters on straight compression. articulating it was ok. i ripped off my stock bumps on my second trail ride. and got into a my pass door on a night ride the following weekend. my sliders are laying the back of the truck. good place for those. i have since replaced my bumpstops with energy suspension progressive bumps. much better than the abrupt hit of the stock bumps.

I know the post says 37+ but I wanted to show my 97 cruiser off. It has 35x1250r17 mt Baja claw and 17inch mt classic lock rims. Arb front and rear air lockers and arb bull bar and 12500 warn winch. And a kicker system with kenwood DVD screen. Its my first vehicle and I'm very proud of it!

Just got these mounted up on the 4wp 4" backspaced steelies.

The 37x12.5x16.5 military MT measure about 36.5 unloaded on my tape measure. these put the ground to door measure at 24"clearance without that rocker interfering.

i did some stuffing of front and rear to measure the shock lengths im gonna need...............and very minimal clipping of fenders with 4" backspace (were talking millimeters) ---so should be some easy trimming without any need to get into the inner fender hump. Im running OME 2.5med w/30mm MAF spacers up front and slee 10mm ones in rear. Im pretty light (5100lbs on my old 33.5s.) These puppies are heavy tho!

Is it me or do they look small???

Man, I've been thinking about those wheels, glad you posted this. The 4" backspacing looks right on. Been really tempted now that the military BFG Baja's are out in surplus.

lets see some more pics of this pig!!!

So I ordered up some 37x12.5R16 Irok ND's. 863 rear and 850 J with 30mm spacer in front. They actually measure out to 36" exactly unloaded. Theres a side by side shot next to a regular irok. I like the look and stance though. Glad I finally got some 37s!!!

The next 80 I am planning will be 40"MTR's, and all the suspension points moved up so all the arms are at std height, but tubbed inner fenders and new upper mounts will make for 30% up travel and 70% droop using 14"stroke shocks and slinly long travel coils, oh, and it wil be a ute :D

I had 40's on my patrol for a while with 14"stroke shocks.

One of my most favorite, well-designed 80 series rigs out there...

Nice work Darren..

Thanks, It was a neat truck, and a step toward the changes for the next one, which Im looking forward to building.

This is one of my fav shots of ROOBY, a 8500# truck, on 37's, chucking sand out the back on boost, in high range from all 4 wheels, thats just what that truck was, point and shoot, and fun to drive.
