I've been getting more gasoline smell lately, and so I'm looking to replace the tank on my '78 while the OEM are still available. I got super excited that I could get one for only $104.66!!! LINK

But then decided that might be too good to be true. I noticed @wngrog installed part no 77100-60042 when he did the "almost" perfect1978 Mustard, so I have to assume that's the correct one, even though TPD says it's for '73-'74.

Does anyone know if part 77100-60080 would work on a '78 NAS 40? Would be great to save $300, but not if it doesn't fit of course. Perhaps it's for 55s only? @OGBeno ?

The correct part no. for a 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979 up to a Jan 1979 build date for FJ40's appears to be 77100-60043, which is likely NLA.

The Toyotapartsdeal website indicates (when I checked) $390.06 for the discounted price.
It also has the note: Other Name: Tank Assy, Fuel Replaces: 77001-60042, 77100-60043, 77001-60043.

If be shocked if they have a 55 tank. If so buy them all
Looks like the 77100-60080 is available for the '77 FJ55 for $100, if you need one. Doesn't help me unfortunately.

So what's the right one for a '78 FJ40 though?

I updated post #3 to explain the details in the fiche illustration for fuel tanks, to help the intuitively challenged .

Thanks @73FJ40, I’ll admit I’m challenged in a number of ways…

I’ll report back with my findings

Toyota South Atlanta still lists this tank as available--part no 7710060042--$397--yep, expensive, but it is OEM--you want cheap, or you want something that has already lasted 40+ years--depends on your application--(fyi--ccot lists same tank{aftermarket} as $571)--you will spend another $300 plus in chemicals and labor to clean the thing--Mine is stiil ok--after 10 yrs(back then I paid around $300 for the tank). --hopefully, I prepped it right.

@sggoat yeah, I still think $375 or so is a great deal for an OEM tank. But my pulse did quicken a bit when it looked like I might be able to get one for $100.

@vfrer agreed on Greico. I think I’m gonna switch from EBToyota

If Toyotapartsdeal.com says its in stock, just assume it isn't. You will order, get excited, and then Monday morning, get a refund notification. Best you can do is use the chat service and have them verify prior to placing your order on anything they claim is in stock. If it IS in stock (and God forbid it is larger than what will fit in an envelope/small box) expect it to arrive looking like it was used in a war. I have received wheels that were smashed. Yes, crushed wheels. See my post in the bad seller thread on toyotaparts"deal".

It’s mentioned in this thread above but Cruiser Outfitters will sell it
I believe that @40Pete was seeking first-hand experience, since many of online OEM sites mentioned above have extensive track records of showing parts being available that are actually NLA.
