Any help on how to separate the Disc Rotor from the Axle Hub on a '78 FJ40? I took the bolts off the back of the Rotor (that I assume hold it to the Hub) but I can't figure out how to separate it from the Hub. Appreciate the direction!
The preload was already set (presumably) when the gentleman that rebuilt the TC installed the Hub and set the preload on the bearings. I think that is the preload you are referring to.
From my understanding of the procedure, that is a...
Georg, I really appreciate your input. Yes, it seems to me that renewing the o-rings on the Speedo would have been a SOP, but it wasn’t done. At this point, I either lower the rear of the engine, or relocate the crossmember, to pull the drum...
Because I have no clearance behind the brake drum and the crossmember due to the 4.5” adapter behind my SM420. I have to lower the rear of the engine to lower the TC to be able to get the drum off.
I don’t “think” it’s coming out of the splines. I was told by Mark that if I sealed the washer at the end of the shaft, it would prevent oil leaking from from the splines. I had that leak before. That is what I did. It was my understanding...
Well, first, the oil is leaking from the bottom of the brake drum. I can’t tell where it is coming from without removing the brake drum, which I can’t do without dropping the engine due to my clearance problem. So it’s not a trivial problem to...

Is there any explanation for oil leaking from the rear brake other than from the rear seal of the Transfer? I recently rebuilt/replaced the Speedometer gear and o-rings, which is the only other thing that I can think of...
That's what the drawing shows too. I only have a single nipple (I'm only using one; there is a second one with plastic breather cap on the top of it). I don't see any place on the back side of my air cleaner to run a hose to from the...
Does anyone know what will work as an acceptable replacement for the '75-'80 FJ40 Cabin Air Filter for the Distributor (Toyota PN 17810-61010)? That is discontinued.
If not, is it possible to clean out and rehabilitate an existing one? Can I...
I agree!!! Thanks especially to @MoCoNative and @BILT4ME for taking the time to provide such detailed explanations. It clearly helped more Users than even just me. I know I understand it all better.
While the others here have attempted to answer your question and have somewhat gone off the rails into other descriptions, it does not directly answer your question as to WHY the front reservoir is larger.
It has entirely to do with hydraulic...
Realize on any brake master cylinder the reservoir is split in two. The early Toyotas have two separate reservoirs, but the later masters with one reservoir are just providing fluid to the two circuits in the same way. If you look into the...
