out of the 100's of deals I have done related to Cruisers over the years, can only count the bad ones on one hand

when I see guys like Racer65 making stuff that I would have sworn we would never see again...it by far makes up for it :)

Thanks for the support guys!

I'm currently making a new batch of the rear step, as it's sold out. To be honest I wasn't prepared for the level of interest, as I always thought of it as a specialty item for the more advanced addict :). Then I noticed the view count for this item quickly exceeded that of the intake hoses.

By the way the MUD price for it is $135. The new batch should be ready in about 3 weeks if not sooner.

What years are being reproduced made to fit? Three different version were produced by Toyota. This was do to changes with the location of the bumperettes.

The type with wings pointing outward, as in part #62641-90300. I'm aware of the earlier type with the wings pointing inward, but I'm not sure what is the third version you are referring to.

My understanding is that the type with outward wings will fit all years, but the early type will not work on later cars due to the bumperettes.

Here's the rear step and hitch on my 1971. Things have a bit of surface rust and the paint is fading but it's original dealer installed. The hitch looks different than the one pictured earlier in this thread but Toyota may have changed things over the years.

Your correct that is will work the difference is the location of the holes was different. The third version was very wide one that would work until the 68 model started and reflectors were added just inside the tail lights moving the bumperettes inward. I have couple of them removed from 63 new and another one I stripped off a 64. If they last until 67 is unclear. The smaller version that flange turn inward would work on the early model as the hole to mount were there back to the FJ25.

I've acquired both the stock step and some vintage of a trailer hitch for mine. There are no holes in the step, but you can see from the attached pictures that if you want to use both simultaneously, you need relief in the step for the nut and lock washer for the trailer ball.

As a gap gauge, I was only able to fit a 6 mm screw under the hitch and above the step.

Both 73FJ40 & Fj40green pics have a stock OEM rear step, but aftermarket hitches. AFAIK the OEM hitch is cast iron and puts the hitch ball in the middle of the step. Aftermarket rear steps are rare (nonexistent?) since the mounting points are proprietary. Hitches use the world standard 4bolt hitch pattern so there are many different kinds produced in the last ~70 years.

Well, it exists now. I used to have an OEM cast iron tow hitch, but took it off after I installed the rear step. The nut underneath is too thick and interferes with the step. I figure I use the step everyday but I never tow. Here's a pic of the tow hitch.

mine has a hole in it. although I dont have a hitch ball going through it

The towing capacity would be about zero pounds. :meh:

I think the hole in the step is to access the nut only, with the ball on a hitch connected to the frame. I don't believe the step was intended for a ball to be installed upon. I think I've seen a photo on here of what I'm trying to describe.....? :meh:

Three different size rear steps. These pictures are old I have some cleaner ones now.

Was that cast ball hitch listed as a option for the 4X series Land Cruiser? I believe they were a option on 4Runners. But I believe the rear step was standard on all 40 series Land cruiser that had either barn doors or ambulance doors in the US market. This is not a stock pintle since it has the cotter pin to lock it. But a Pintle was a option on Land Cruisers from the beginning until now in some markets. I plan on replacing this one with one that has 2" ball cast on the end for a small boat and pintle for 1/4 ton trailers. Works with rear step.

Closer to 14 1/2". The sides of the step offer some flexibility for adjustment, so it doesn't have to be exact.
Basically all Cruisers with bumperettes should have this distance.

what about outside dimension of the ears on the step?
i have my bumperettes too far apart, by about 2"....16.25"
