what about outside dimension of the ears on the step?
i have my bumperettes too far apart, by about 2"....16.25"

How did that happen? Did you drill your own holes to mount the bumperettes?

What I measured was from the center of the hole to the center of the hole in both ears. I know you can spread the sides to be as wide as 15 1/2" apart, but I don't know about 16 1/4".

Thanks for the support guys!

I'm currently making a new batch of the rear step, as it's sold out. To be honest I wasn't prepared for the level of interest, as I always thought of it as a specialty item for the more advanced addict :). Then I noticed the view count for this item quickly exceeded that of the intake hoses.

By the way the MUD price for it is $135. The new batch should be ready in about 3 weeks if not sooner.

I'll take one when they are available. And thanks for making the inner transfer boot. Great quality

custom bumper, that retains the look of a bumperless rear.
if the step fits between the ettes i can just drill and tap some more holes.

I get where you're going now. The distance from one end of the "ear" to the end of the other ear is about 15 1/2". That's the default. If you want it spread out a little more, that's easy to accommodate. I can even ship one to you that's pre-adjusted to about 16 1/4" end to end so that it abuts your bumperettes.

Was that cast ball hitch listed as a option for the 4X series Land Cruiser? I believe they were a option on 4Runners.

Still interested if someone knows if these were ever a option on the 40 series? I've seen bent rear steps and bent bumperettes but none that caused a bent rear frame member. Seen plenty of ball hitches that were bolt to the four holes in the center that cased the back frame member to bend with the leverage added to the hanging down hitch. Owner's manuals shows using the shackle on the back as tow point to get the vehicle unstuck. Just the shear pin in the PTO winch was designed as the weakest link I think anything bolted on the back would be designed to bend before damaging the frame.

Alright, freshly baked FJ40 rear steps right out of the oven (literally...).
You can see more stock photos and descriptions on my site.
As noted, these steps are finished to a higher standard than OEM. The powder coating is done by a member of the Powder Coating Institute.

While they look great if your going to all the work of powder coating them you should consider drilling some with the holes in the right location to mount on the pre 74 models. You should also list these fit 74 and up models and new holes required for earlier models your description. I know as customer I wouldn't be happy to have fill some holes and drill others in a piece that was professionally powder coated.

Can I ask you where you got your hitch receiver. Looks like Cool Cruisers has one just like it. I'm hoping to not have to take my step off.

I am against having a trailer hitch hang below the rear crossmember. Most trails are two track and a hitch hanging down below the crossmember are only asking to damage the crossmember. A combination pintle hook/trailer ball keep everything high and would not interfere with the rear step which should come every time use the cruiser off road.

I’m just using it for a basket to hall a few extra items going camping
