Interesting.... seller just chimed in and says it is titled as a '68 but he thought it was wrong given the hardtop. Sounds like this is a 1968 with a bunch of mods including a late hardtop and ambys?

That would be likely...

Well I'm the idiot that currently owns this FJ. Never knew more about the car until reading this thread. Usually it's just been people on the street that stop me to question everything on it.

Working on getting some new photos added this afternoon, VINs, Titles, Plates etc. I told the guys about what I assumed was an awkward title year when I began working with them. Rest assured it looks like I've come to right the right place for advice and friendly banter.

Welcome to MUD!

We've all had a learning curve on cruisers as such you've come to the right place!

It's been quite a curve. Especially on the wallet.

Here's a video for anyone that wanted to see plates. There's a few others as well.

Anyone have advice on the transmission? It's got a 4 speed with the granny, but it doesn't align to the little picture on the glovebox.

The '68s came with three speed tranny, so you may have the three speed diagram in lieu of the four speed.

It should look like this:

Welcome to mud :)

Are you the owner ... Or the guy selling it for the owner?

Assuming the vin is correct/matches on the frame as well that does put it in line as being a 68' cruiser ... But... The legality of the tag has A lot to be desired

Do you have any other documentation from Columbia? With the vin and year specified The export/importation papers?

Btw you do have the bezel on correctly ... That's a plus lol

Technically the car is under my father's name, but it was a project we worked together until I moved. It came to us from Texas. Unfortunately, the previous owner there didn't provide any documentation of shipping from Colombia.

I like seeing that ... Those are the correct stampings for the frame vin... So it is definitely a 1968 ... November 68'

the missing correct vin plates are still a concern ... But... If it is titled and its matching a lot of states do not even look :meh:

Nebraska is most likely one of them :)

Does the title call it a 68 or 78?

Title calls it a 1968. Had so many people deny it as a 68 with the wiper placement and ambulance doors that I was brainwashed into thinking it was a later year.

On BaT I had an inquiry about a VIN on the transmission. Can anyone help with locations? I rolled around under there for about 10 minutes, but couldn't spot anything.

Best to snap a pic and post here. You will get it identified.
