Hello All!

I am the proud new owner of a 1972 FJ40, British Racing Green. This truck is in great shape, however the restoration it went through has left me with some loose ends to tie up! CruiserHeads, I need some help! I am hoping to use this thread to post my progress as I sort through some of the more simple fixes all the way to an engine/tranny swap! Thank you in advance, I can't wait to do this rig justice!

Nice truck. You may want to have this thread moved to 40/55 tech. I think you'll get more views and answers to questions over there.

I already requested that it be moved. We'll see how that goes. :)

Thank you! Is there a way to move it or do I just have to repost?

Moved

Engine swap wise, are you thinking newer Landcruiser 6 cylinder, or late model Chevy V8 ???

I have had a 350 in another 40 and didn’t like how rough it drove compared to the inline 6, 1F or 2F.

I am VERY curious to know how the R2.8 runs with a 5 speed manual. I’m not sure if the H55 mates with that motor but that’s my dream setup!

So does that mean you don't want advise on dealing with the powertrain you have?

Noted a bolt missing from the top of the transmission shifter. That won't help. Neither will the lack of a rubber boot to seal the shift lever to the tower. Do you have the foam that seals the tunnel cover to the tub.

How's your alternator working with the minimal belt contact caused by the power steering pump?

BTW, that paint job looks SHARP!!!

Really nice color— close to my color except mine is faded. Was it still in process of painting in the picture? I ask because it looks like she is using blue paint tape.

Zeous0623, I on the other hand thought my V8 Chevota ran much smoother than the 6 cylinder, in all aspects, curious why you thought your V8 ran rough ???

Thank you! I LOVE the color, Jaguar Racing Green or British Racing Green? Its a Jag color.

@65swb45 I ABSOLUTELY would love advice on the current powertrain!!! I am just scheming about motor/transmission swaps currently.

I am attaching a few photos below. I did notice the bolts missing on the transmission cover, I replaced them when I replaced the seal. Could have been a part of my leak problem...

Also, I do not have the foam seal, do you have one?

Take a peek at the belt contact with the alternator, it seems to work just fine however please let me know your thoughts!

@Martyt good eye! We were spraying new liner in the tub after cleaning a fuel leak. And we love the color too. I always wanted a 40 in Desert Tan, but this green is stunning! It was originally green but not like this.

@Downey I bought my last 40 with the swap already done. I think it the motor mounts needed to be replaced. It shook around 30 MPH and then settled down. Take a peek at some photos! It was also a nice truck but I think my new one is an upgrade ;)

Here are a couple things I am sorting now; replace water temperature sending unit as the temp gauge is not reading (new unit should be here by Friday), connect the ARB compressor for the ***winch, and connect my wipers! (hopefully an easy fix?).

Thank you!
