Drove down to Iron Pig yesterday and had dual swing arms with tire carrier installed. What a relief to get the spare out from underneath the truck. Undecided about what to mount to the other swing arm

I also mounted the Pro Clip Cradle for my iPhone..slightly modified to fit the 80 counsel

After reading in its entirety, feel a little like I half assed mine.

Nice work. Sort of wish I had read before succumbing to mediocrity on the stereo and deadener. Haha.

Looking great Lou! Good to see the old Ironpig Offroad again, looks like it has come a long way.

You are are so right .. They have a new location with road frontage
BTW I thought you said a while back that you were not going to spend much building a rig .... Hahahaha that went out the window pretty quick.... Looking forward to seeing the turbo install

Chris

What say you? Remove your door pockets and build speaker pods for the front doors ..... Or just cut the front section and build a front pod on the lower portion... Your building a big off road rig .... they don't have to be pretty.... My rigs about three steps above a mall cruiser and spends 90% of its life on pavement so it has to look pretty.... Hahaha

Pretty can get dirty, too.

I don't care for a lot of crap rolling around in door pockets, so the real estate maybe allocated to speaker housings.

Where else are they gonna go?

Going to get it put back together with what I've got, and come back to it, probably with the assistance of a pro. Been hung up of for too long and still have a mountain of parts to go, bumpers/sliders to fab, and on and on. Haha.

Nice job on the liner. It's tedious work on one layer, so hats off for three.

I've been considering new rims and tires for my truck and was thinking about these TRD rims with a OMF ring..I do understand I'd have to run spacers but was headed that direction anyway.. Will I have any issues with 315 DuraTrac's clearing with the spacer's? I have a 2.5 inch lift... Anybody running these rims or considerations i should be thinking about regarding this setup?
If this works out I'll be selling my 5 rims and tires. The tires have about 2k miles on them.... I also have another 80 rim.. I'll post in the for sale section when the time comes

luke, 1. ur the bucking man, 2. great build and 3. what are your thoughts on the IPOR rear bumper thus far ?

I am looking into rear bumpers but am skeptical on picking one because well... shipping to hawaii is expensive I dont want to make the wrong choice.

Lou, you will have no problems fitting the wheels, with the right spacers. All the spacer is doing is getting the TRD rim, do the stock backspacing. You might have some slight rubbing on 2.5" lift but only in offload situations and you could correct it with a 25/30mm trim packer.

Just remember that both spacers and bead locks add another level of maintenance that many shops won't deal with. I know local tire shops here won't touch a truck with bead locks and spacers because of the liability issues. So just get a nice torque wrench and check them frequently

My two cents, for what it's worth, regarding bead lockers.

They're unnecessary for the platform, considering that a road worthy tire isn't capable of benefitting off road with pressures low enough for bead breaking.

I went the bead locker route on the FJC, primarily to stiffen the outer rim, protect the valve stem (which I have had dislodge numerous times) and to allow for trail repairs.

I regret. The only balance method that's proven effective are air soft pellets, therefore a simple tire repair is a mess. Mine are heavy (the OMF TRDs are 28lbs, if memory serves. Doable) and are a constant maintenance headache.

Regardless, if you're considering the faux locks, they do address the outer edge stiffening and stem protection. A well respected "buddy" has ran on an FJC out west, without issue.

The only issue I'd have with faux locks is the admission every time someone asks if they're real. Hahaha.

Thanks for the advise guys .... I do not need the headache of a true bead lock so would go for the faux and just tell a little white lie if anyone asked if they are real..... Hahaha.... I love the look . Will most likely powder coat the ring that comes with the wheels unless OMF will do a simple bolt on ring.... I fear they'll laugh me off the phone if I ask :)

Haha that last post was written from my phone driving to work, funny to read all the typo's. Anyways, I think it is a good idea going with a faux beadlock. Like I said a lot of places won't even mess with real bead locks so tire changes or repairs become a hassle. Like Delancy said, the way to balance a bead lock is with pellets, I used ceramic pellets on my 55 and they ballanced pretty well but again a pain for any kind of tire work.

I do like the look though looks great! What color are you powder coating?

The lip of the rim machines flat and the ring bolts to the wheel in similar fashion to a true bead locker, except it doesn't pinch the bead.

Machining the lip down was a concern of mine initially, but the ring itself adds strength, in theory, which was the primary reason for consideration, since the OEs were prone to bending off road.

I was headed this same direction on the FJC but wasn't capable of achieving the 4.0" BS needed without spacers on the front (added cost) plus the conversion by OMF isn't "cheap", and no local resources were deemed acceptable. long term cost (as if they matter, right?) the lighter wheel would be much more effective, considering fuel and wear.

If going faux and not off road, I'd balance conventionally. The reason I went with airsofts was the tires chunked in the rocks, therefore the drive home was miserable and had to rebalance after most trips out. Dynamic balancing compensates for, but if you're primary purpose is on road it's not worth the hassle of.

If you opt for dynamic balancing, don't buy into the online guides. You can't have too much, and when I replace the tires on mine, adding a total of 16-20ozs of airsofts in each wheel, as opposed to the 12ozs now.

For that matter, may add ten golf balls a wheel.

Edited for over use of commas. Hahaha.

And lastly the only other concern I would have is double check that the TRD wheels are forged and not cast, some of them are and some of them aren't. If you are trading the stock forged wheels for cast TRD wheels it is kind of a downgrade in terms of quality....

Chris you lost me after the first paragraph..hahaha
Thanks for the link.. I found a set of 5 black TRD's locally .. going for a look see:)
