I found a pic that shows them at least to be similar. I don't know what length the adapter adds though.

The pan on the 6L80, though, has much more front driveshaft clearance than the 4L60.

Love to see the same picture but with a 6L80 :)

*edit: is that a 4L60e and a 6L80e? I assumed it was the 4L60 next to the 4L80.

Cheers

I'm just getting used to having 300 HP from the 5.3l. It's awesome and torquey. More power than I ever imagined in an FJ60. Can't imagine what the 6.2 would feel like....AMAZING!?!

Great thread, keep it coming.

Can't remember the thread - but there's a guy on here that did a 6.0/6.2 conversion. Never thought about it until I saw his build/video/heard the exhaust. A little over 1K price difference and a little less mpg, but '...yup, it's a 6.2 under the hood...' = worth it IMO. It'll be a test for the YOTA xfer & axles...

@FJ60Cam - I'll have to go back and check my notes b/c to be honest, I just can't remember at the moment - do you know if the 6L80 has a girth problem for the 60's hull? I'm not afraid of modifying but would prefer to keep the cutting to a minimum. BTW - thx for the pic.

I *think* that is the 6L80E & 4L60E. I pulled it off the Internet from a thread claiming that to be the subject. But I don't really know what a 6L80 looks like!

I've got the 4L60E, and have PLENTY of room for more girth (can I get a "that's what she said"?).

I like the 4L60 for the most part, but some of the gears seem to have too big a jump.

Check out this thread - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/40...-swap-kit-in-development.825225/#post-9468479 ... sure it's in an 80, but there's lots of good info & pics in there.

I'm not totally sure what the shifter options are for the 6-spd. I saw where someone says a Lokar style will work, but the paddle shifter thing is more common (but doesn't look right in a 60).

I have a 4L60e with a shift kit and tune, in front of the split case. Best auto I have ever had. It doesn't "coast" like so many other Chevy autos I have driven.

Cheers

There's a ton of room in the transmission tunnel of the 60 series, remember it's the same shell as the FJ62 with the auto, which should be similar in dimensions to any of those traditional automatic transmissions like the 4L or 6L GM's.

@FJ60Cam:

A little 6L80 blurb - ba

Found my notes on the tranny's (not the ones from Thailand, hehe). 6L only needs (recommended) slight build (strength). As I'm OCD & paranoid already, the build would be a no-brainer for me.

Just sent an email to Lokar - will post their reply. Also - the seems like the powerglide tranny shifter would be an option but not sure how many suv/truck floor mounted shifters are floating around. I know Lokar's shifter design/height would work - maybe custom linkage & custom shift ball would make it a one-n-done.

'...that's what she said...' - used numerous times a day in the Schruff household!

4L60E's have been around forever. Lots of easy upgrades so you can build them to suit. Good ratios for our application, and even a dummy like me can rebuild them. A 4L65E should handle the LS3 just fine. Don't know of anyone that has used a 6L80E yet in a cruiser. Would be cool to see, the more gears the better, IMHO.

@daytonadogie: agreed; my rig will be an asphalt queen and NOLA is flat, flat, flat!

Got a few parts back from the plating shop:

Parts look great.

You'll never remember where everything goes .

Man - already hit the panic button, lol. Pretty sure I'm in wayyyyyyyyy over my head :bang:

Seller's accepted our bid, woo hoo! Inspection & appraisal scheduled. If all goes well, closing date end of September. 4.78 acres on the river and outside city limits = weapons training every weekend. Here's a few shots of the highly anticipated, so stoked about, and will probably be the death of me. . . .drum roll. . .Shane's GARAGE!

First order of business - body's coming off! Figure I should do this and get it squared away bf sending her off for the heart transplant =)

Congrats on the house and property Shane  You just bought yourself a second job (property maintenance) but it's the best job you'll ever do. Just stay away from buying a bunch of horses and you will be good!!

@NCFJ: Much appreciated but it's too late - 430 horses are in the plans but will be stabled under the 60's hood, hehe. The property is 100% yet. Waiting on inspection/appraisal and then final finance approval. And actually looking fwd to the property managing vs. city living. I'll give you a buzz in the next few days. . .hope all is well.

Shane
