Slowly making progress. Sold the 14 bolt axle from the CUCV, still trying to sell the motor and transmission. However, got the D60 up on stands so I can start prepping it. Picked up some FJ60 rear springs for the new front end and they fit on the axle perfectly (after using 3/8-16 hex cap bolts and drilling out the perches to 9/16"). Also grabbed some Warn selectable hubs and a Barnes 4WD 13 bolt cover that will help me gain back some ground clearance.

Nice.. can't wait to see this done.

What OME springs are those Johnny? I have OME as well - 5 pack on my fronts, seem like light or med at best. I need to raise it up... HATE THE STINK BUG LOOK!

J

They're not OME springs, they're Toyota, or factory replacement, stock FJ60 rear springs in the picture. Are you asking about something else?

I'm not a fan of the stink bug look either :D

Bitchin'!

Ahh the famous Mahany stool... a workshop's best friend.

I've got two of them. They're awesome little stools, aren't they?

Assumed OME.... You know where that gets me.

:D

Tell-tale sign that a set of springs are factory, or factory replacement, is that the leaf retainers are folded-over the top leaf, as pictured above. Aftermarket upgrade springs, such as OME, typically have bolted retainers, as pictured below:

I learned something new.. Thanks man.

Looks like you got lucky with the hubs. I thought the original picture showed the D60 with a missing hub. That's excellent news.

Yup, the axle didn't come with selectable hubs. Picked a set up off pirate for 100 and they seem to work perfectly. Score!

You are nuts, but like what you are doing....

Yes I am, but you're arguably crazier than I! You didn't have your truck together for a year before you took it apart again :p

The RuffStuff Chevy Dana 60 diff-side u-bolt plate doesn't fit. Minor modifications are necessary:

Painted my diff cover with pink plasti-dip, although it looks almost red in bright light

As an aside, I decided that I need an outdoor workspace prior to starting the swap. Therefore, I'll be putting in a 10'x30' concrete pad next to my garage to do the work. Prep starts this weekend!

after reading your thread, I am such a noob - but learning

I am just trying to get road worthy on standard 60 axles and you have having fun with a Dana 60 (more things to learn....yep, yep)

Well at least you have a garage and a warm climate (except for this winter). My postage size lot can't support fixing my rig on a long term basis. That is why I am literally in field at Jake's place. I would love to have concrete underme instead of dirt.

Maybe someday.

looking good and thanks for the tutorial/thread

I'm a noob too man, I'm always learning. I wish my truck could fit all the way into my garage!

Thanks for the compliments and for reading

Airing down those 38's doesn't do the trick?

Height isn't the concern, it's the fact that I've put a massive toolbox, two large workbenches and a large set of shelves, combined with the fact that instead of one large door, I've got two small ones.

If I bought wheel dollies, I was thinking I could maneuver the beast in, but then I'd have minimal space left to do any actual work. Besides, this is a good excuse to put my pad in :D

Well, I drive a lot slower now at 42, but somethings will never change, right?
Hope to get together one day !
