After searching here I don't see a thread dedicated to this important topic that everyone considers sooner or later.

I've read that the correct wheel backspacing is 3.5" inches, and that stock rims had a zero offset. This would mean that the stock rims were 7" inches wide. However, I've read that they were 6" and I'm trying to find a perfect fit for 33" tires under a stock lift.

Yes, I'm new here, so be gentle.

Welcome to the site.

This is one thread I found with a quick search.

They were 5.5". Are you looking for rims or tires, or both? It would also help if you we knew the year, etc.
Thanks for the reply. I just bought a November '77 FJ that's titled as a '78.

My 31" tires are 10 years old but seem fine, so I'm planning their replacement. They're on 15" rims with an unknown backspace, so wheel replacement is on the table if needed. However, if I determine that 33s can't fit properly without a lift, then I might simply stay with 31s.

I'm trying some overland trails and hope to keep it stock height, but the back seems to be a bit low, so larger shackles are probable, or maybe a replacement leaf.

I just 33s on stock suspension might put some lift shackles in rear till I get the coin for a lift kit.

How wide are the rims that you have now? I have 33 x 9.5 Kenda Klever tires on factory wheels 5.5” wide with no lift, and no clearance problems. Wider rims might cause rubbing.

What color is that!? Reminds me of one of the olives but looks like it has some pearl to it. Looks sharp!!
The color is a factory General Motors color- 2004 Olive Metallic. Not pearl though. I picked it out of a catalog at MAACO in 2006. Base coat/clear coat.
