Wow that is impressive for a aluminum 45lb rack....but you didnt show any pics showing the lowrider stance :)

Did the weight affect your height much? Good to know that rack can hold its own but I cant imagine driving with that much weight that high up. Must be interesting!

Well with 700lbs on the roof it didn't really effect the stance of the LX at all. Maybe dropped it 3/4" The weight is less than having 4 guys in the truck. I didn't drive it and wouldn't want to but I think if you secured the load well you could. :)

Scott, which roof rack clamps did you use? The 45 degree ones or the 30/60 ones from Gamiviti/Tallowpot? I need to buy some for my 80 so I can mount my Front Runner rack that I had on my 100.

Dave,

I used the low mounts the 30/60. They are on the lowest setting and will only work this way if you have removed the OEM rack and runners. I like where is sits and think the little extra work to remove all of the OEM stuff is definitely worth it after seeing the rust and issues under mine. I might be able to get a straight on shot at roof height to show you just how close the rear of the rack actually is.

Cool, the main factory supports are gone, but I need to remove the runners.

Hey Dave,

I looked at it tonight and there is less than 1/2" at the lowest point. The 80 roof has a little drop at the front you can kind of see it in this pic. The camera kind of "fisheyed" it but you can look at the rear bar and see its pretty close to the roof.

Ryan that rack is impressive. You should talk to your fabricator about selling these. How much did you pay btw? I might have missed it in a previous post. Can he make a rear tire carrier(third row)?

I WANT YOUR RACK

Part of me wants to take a few weeks off work and build my LX450 and the other part wants to just give up cause I'd rather have your rig! Subscribed.

Hey guys,

I know Travis would definitely be up for making more. He has the plans in CAD on the computer so it is easily replicated. It is a great system for people that don't want a big heavy rack and either realize things need to be tied down on the roof or think they might want a Roof Top Tent sometime in the future. If you are serious about it give him a call -

Houston Aluminum Welding

The price was VERY reasonable considering I did it out of polish anodized aluminum. It is a full size rack, 84"x52" and I paid the same price as I would have for the steel racks that I looked at.

GT443,

Great minds think alike. ha! I have talked to Travis about doing a rear cargo area tire rack from aluminum but he won't do it unless he can have the 80 for a couple days to make a jig off of. Since I don't live in Houston, it is really hard for me to let him have my truck. I might be reaching out to a couple 80's guys in the area and see if they wouldn't mind if their 80's aren't daily drivers. Travis does super clean work and I know that it would be a great piece. I am just not exactly sure how I want to do it yet. I looked at using the grab handle and the 3rd row seat mounting holes to keep it tight against the wheel well to save as much space as possible and I wouldn't have to drill and bolt through the floor like Slee's carrier does.

Awesome! Keep me updated if this ever goes thru. I dont have a third row but I got a set of seat brackets just in case.

Hey Lou, the cargo drawers and sleeping platform will need to wait until I tackle the spare tire carrier, and then I will custom build one. But right now I am kind of consumed with my possible move back to DC. Have a great trip to Vail!

Ryan

Ryan ...looks great ... Now what's going on with your cargo tray? They do make ones that fit :):)

Oh haha, yeah that is the weathertech one that is supposed to fit, but it has kind of lost its shape, I guess Texas heat, I will probably replace it. Thanks for the offer on driving some trucks back!

I am still trying to figure that out. I can ship the GTR for $1100 which is almost what I would spend in gas. I will probably sell the GX or LX and drive which ever one is left. It is a little disappointing looking for places in Arlington with a garage! Ha, damn DC prices.
