Completed the wiring pigtail for the super cool dual color sub tank light. Without some of the OEM plugs, my tech likes to use this style connector.

Back on the #2....now with Troopy 'home', we need to get #2 into the wiring phase. Almost there....going to make a big push over the next 2 weeks I think to tidy up the loose ends.

The 76 that donated its interior didn't have a sub tank....so no sub tank light or gauge to tell you when you are on the sub tank.....my tech came up with a slick setup. We'll tie this in so it is in normal green illumination with lights on or on main tank:

Then when you switch over to the sub tank, it will illuminate red...regardless if the dash lights are on or not. Pretty cool...great idea.

So did he insert a red bulb/led to make this work?

Dug out this stuff(which is a good sign...it means we are about to start on electrical). When we pulled the locking axles from the junkyard truck, we grabbed some wiring harness parts and the ECU for the lockers. We'll make all this work. Well, one of us will....not me. I think my electrical guru was able to trace out most of the stuff pertaining to this system today. We'll be running a full time transfer case.....so there will be an H4 button(76 series donor had an H4 button) to engage 4wd(converting to part time). Several different inputs go into the ECU to control the lockers from what I was told.

So did he insert a red bulb/led to make this work?

We use multi color LEDs in our high dollar radar systems....maybe 4 color(?) ones....he was able to figure out how to get that in there. The guy is next level.

Real stuff happening today....

I feel like we crested the big hill today with the trans/transfer going in for final.....pretty stoked about it. With this in, it's time to really push to get this into the wiring stage. Can't wait....once that's in, I can start final assembly of interior.....build an exhaust and then drive this thing.

Flywheel that came with 1HZ motor.

I stuck with the 275mm....hoping it's going to be OK. I'm pretty easy on my stuff and I don't think I'll be really running the boost up in this motor.

It's one of the larger trans/tranfer combos I've installed.....a little different with the bell housing attached to the trans on a Land Cruiser for us....used to 3FE/4speed combos in 40s.

Nice to see the shifter in here and know that it's not just in for mock up. Finished sound dampening the new shifter plate this week too.

Troopy approves of #2 getting finished up so it can get some reassembly love.

Things that get knocked off the list:

Steering stabilizer mount and bracket
Fuel lines from tank solenoids up to filter housing
Rear tank fill connected to tank
Starter installed
Clutch slave final install....I had bought a take off from Cruiserparts for $35 or something....too good of a deal to pass up with the rubber hose AND steel line I think.

Lined up the 70 series stabilizer bracket. Decided to do something we don't usually do....we blew holes thru the frame to mount it. I would normally build a bracket of some sort that would mount into threaded holes. Nothing really good for that with this. So three bolts thru the frame and done. Didn't take any pics....we were bouncing around all over the truck today.

I had a Dobinsons stabilizer for the Troopy in the shop....fit really well on this truck.....16.75" compressed....25.5" extended.

Because the sub tank on this truck is in a much different spot than it would be on a 79 frame.....we had to mod the OEM filler hose. Gradually cut it down until we got it just right. Last thing to do on the fuel system is to run some hardlines from the sub tank to the switching valves. Easy. Need to run a vent line from the sub tank to the filler neck of the main tank. No provisions on that filler neck(I think these trucks were single tank trucks...so no vent connection)....we'll T into the existing line that allows venting when filling.

Another productive day.....we are pushing hard. Kind of need to get on customer cars as things will get busy with our normal work....

Catching up from yesterday.....this is how the steering stabilizer bracket was secured. No more of a fan of it today than I was yesterday but life will go on. For sure it's strong and that's most important.

Clutch slave installed for final.

Fixed up this line.....it was originally in the center of the cross member which will probably be close to where our exhaust will run so we moved it over towards the passenger side. With this being replaced, I don't think there is anything left from the original builders.

Ran our lines for the sub tank....supply and return. Pretty straight forward. Using OEM plastic clips to secure things to the frame. I have been using 2 layers of heat shrink to pad the lines where they clip into the holders. Very similar to what Toyota does....except they coat the whole line with plastic in some places. The bulked up heat shrink areas really allow the lines to snap in very securely.

3/8" line for supply, 1/4" for return....same as OEM. Using the copper/nickel line again. Such nice stuff to work with.

Used my beloved flaring tool to put a rib on the end of the lines...closest I could get to factory. I'm sure there is a specialized tool to do this.

Tedious process of running the lines but a total luxury to be able to work without a bed in the way.

Addressed this issue too.....since we run a 70 series e-brake cable, we have a short side on the rear of the truck since the 80 axle is much wider than what would have been under a 70. On the #1 truck, we made a new cable....I was going to do that on this truck but figured we would give something else a try.

We did a quick mockup of an extended shackle....OEM pins and clips work with it. Keeps all the OEM stuff intact....no cable changes. I think we'll build one out of stainless and give it a go.

About 5" of extension is what we needed on the right side. Left side fits in with no mods.

First pull of the e-brake....it was right within spec. Pretty cool.

We used 1/8" flat steel...1/2" wide. I want to do 5/8" wide on the new one...a little more meat around the holes where the pins go.

So many great touches here. Do you have a pulled-back shot of the placement of the main and sub tanks?

Interesting that you have a tubular crossmember between the front frame to bed mounts. Wondering if I will need to do that as well.

The tubular crossmember is one that we made....it holds the e-brake support. We will also use it for the exhaust mount when we get to that point. The 70 series has an arched crossmember in this area as I recall....e-brake support is attached to it as well as the exhaust. This was quick and simple to make on our truck as it just ties into the bed mounts. #1 truck doesn't have one....I realize now that it should have one.....would have made hanging the exhaust easier. Didn't even think of adding one.

This is all I have for the main and sub tanks. I can get another one when it's on the lift next time. An absolutely horrible pic....I hate to even put it on this thread!

We installed the breather manifold up high in the engine compartment....for as stripped down as these trucks are...there weren't too many optimal areas. Needed to make sure we kept it out of the way of our hood struts too. We wanted to keep the lines running on the driver's side of the truck....so this is where it went.

Slick little bracket behind the clutch accumulator was all it needed. Pretty impressed with this manifold setup. Nice stuff. We'll tee in the breather vents for the front an rear diff lock actuators into the lines we ran. Easy.

Had one more line to run today....breather for rear fuel tank to front tank. Utilized one of our open spots in our fuel line holders. Bit of a long way to get it around to the front filler but it's secure and out of the way of everything. Happy with it. Today should have wrapped up the lines, vents, breathers. The list is growing shorter and shorter.....time to wire this thing.

The oem clutch does not hold up to good with the turbo but the Terrain Tamer HD version works pretty well
