Looks like the wastegate is not working, I'm making 15psi. Which really makes it fun to drive while in the powerband but not very healthy for the engine, I think.

Dubestoy, it will be a while before I can answer your questions but it seems adequate in the limited driving that I am doing. As for WVO, the smell of french fries on the trail sounds appealing but also alot of work.

15psi isn't all that crazy. How is the engine coolant temperature after sustained hills like that? I assume the EGT is pretty low with that much boost?

A lot of diesels are operated without wastegate at all, just using your foot to limit the boost. How's it do on coolant temperature after long, sustained hills? (like 9 mile eastbound)

my F*rd powerstroke hits nearly 50psi on stock head gasket and head bolts.:D
 
My duramax will top out in the 40's on the racetune but it was built to handle that.
I think 10-12 is safe on the MB and 15 won't kill it but it will shock you when your expecting 10 and you get 15.

Dan, I still have a ways to go before I can see if it overheats on 9 mile hill.
 
I just watched the video and the only thing I didn't see was the garage filling with smoke. What's up with that?

I have the exhaust piped outside and the door closed, otherwise it would fill the garage with smoke before I could start the camera. It is a true oilburner, internal, external and otherwise.

2. (most likely, if she's like my wife) you called her out to see it run and she looked for 2 seconds, lost interest and then left.:lol:
 
She was doing the laundry, she rolled her eyes and left. Correct on both counts.
 
Well I've got most of the bugs worked out. Starts like a Mercedes should and runs pretty decent.
I have an air filter setup ordered from Filter System and should have it in by this weekend.
Then about all I have left to do is get the lift done and it will be ready to roll. Not literally just figuratively. .:bounce:

I don't think that it or I either one are ready for primetime.

Maybe I can bring it out for a Friday lunch thing or something. If anybody wants to come by and see it call or text me at 227-1535. I would love to show what is going right and wrong with it.

You've done more work on your rig in the few short months you've been around here than I have done on all my junk in the 7 years I've been hanging around with these clowns.

Ended up going to upull it today for this housing and built the tube this evening. The filter that I ordered from filter systems turned out to be to long to fit, and I am trying to avoid the generic cone filter. This should work with a snorkel if I come across one some day
 
Anybody have a Cali-emissions turbo for a om617 that they would like to sell?

Mine decided to become a leaker yesterday afternoon, bellowed blue smoke all over the east mountains. If it wasn't so cold everybody would have been thanking me for the mosquito control.
 
Never mind the Turbo..........................................................looks like it was running a little too good.

I have burned a hole in a piston the best I can tell, it has excessive blow-by to the point of pushing oil out of the dipstick tube..

Anybody interested in buying a FJ40/Mercedes conversion with all the work done, just needs an engine?

Oh I won't be too hasty. Just need to figure out if I'm going the way of Bionic or if I am going to stay with the cool, if though slightly underpowered, way of the diesel.

Time will tell............................
