Chris, If you go through here and the kudzu has died back, perhaps you will see the drone. 😊

If I could remember how to get back to that spot, I'd have a look. That was a really cool area....
That area ate one drone and damaged another if I remember correctly. 😁

Got some great news from the guys at Cross Country 4x4.....we had been discussing building a top mount intercooler for the 1HDT in the 79 wide nose body WITH the big scoop DPF hood about a year ago. Hadn't heard from them for a LONG time....out of the blue, I got an email letting me know they were going to get back on the project. Probably not a huge priority for them to make a weird combo like this but I seem to remember them saying that they had guys in South Africa with this same setup. The guy I had originally been dealing with has a DPF hood on a Troopy.....so they have a test rig.

We exchanged some measurements.....and some magic started happening :)

I believe these first 2 pics were the test fitting of the support for the IC.....there were some concerns with air cleaner placements. They made a few changes. Not sure I understand the V8 for the test but I think he mentioned that this was what they had with the DPF hood although I don't think that's a DPF hood in the pic. Pretty sure they know what they're doing :)

I was a little confused how they were going to get the DPF scoop ducting to line up....sure seemed like it would push the IC towards the driver's side......it's offset from the factory:

It's a good thing I don't build intercoolers for a living.....never thought about this........just change the ducting to be centered. Who would have thought :)

Cross Country will supply new ducting to center things.

Hello there ..

Can you share the part numbers for the DPF hood with the bits and bytes to the factory intercooler .. I got the pre DFP hood and I would love to switch to the post DPF model ..

thanks !

I bought mine as a take off so no part numbers unfortunately. I had spent some time looking but it seemed hard to find part numbers for the DPF.....I wasn't sure if I had the right number. But then these complete take off ones popped up and I snagged them. I'll have to go revisit my notes to see if I have anything about them.

Sure looks like the right hood but the scoop piece is not available on my usual search places like Megazip and Partsouq. For some reason I seem to remember that this was going to have to come out of Australia and that seemed challenging(and expensive). Complete takeoff hoods already in the US seemed to be an easier route to go.

Wonder if Australia was the only place that got the DPF hood? Seems in my research there were trucks in the Middle East after 2017 that had the smaller scoop.

I thought I had read where the DPF hood was also something that confirmed to the stricter European pedestrian front impact standards as well. Taller, flatter front impact areas. Maybe I making that stuff up :)

I could be completely wrong but I believe that hood was only offered in Australia
Kind of what I was thinking. I remember spending a LONG time looking around for it and got worried that the ones listed on Partsouq and Megazip would come in as the smaller scoop. I do see where Megazip lists the part number for the region ARL.....guessing that's Australia?

It’s always the “small scoop guys” that get picked on by the “big scoop guys”. 😊

Well small scoop guys can pick on the no scoop guys :)

I'd bet Dave at Japan4x4 can source one regardless of the original market if anyone is looking for one.
Agreed. Not sure how he'd ship it with EMS though....probably a little too big for them :)

I got all of the parts from my local dealership parts dept here in Scotland no problem. Like you say, it's not cheap though.

Oh wow......that's cool they got it for you. Wonder how they sourced it. Yours is a newer truck, right?

I just gave them all of the part numbers. My truck is 2008 so originally came with the smaller scoop in the bonnet. I decided to change the hood to the DPF version as it looks better and beefier!

Also very interested in seeing how this will pan out as I'm currently shopping intercoolers for the FTE Troopy.
A voice (one of many) in my head is telling me heat soak will be an issue with a TMIC but a small electric puller fan under the cooler would minimize this.

The Cross Country one that is going on mine has a Spal fan under it with a temp control switch. I think there were some issues with fans failing but maybe that was corrected. Australians seem to have this pretty well worked out I think.
