I wrapped the exhaust pipe under the cab to cut down on heat. Went for another cruise and all is good. Brake lights seem to be working after I swapped a couple leads at the turn signal switch.
Longer road trip tomorrow.

I'm almost sad this is done. Now I don't have any excuses to get back to work on mine.

It's not ever really done. I plan to wheel this truck and upgrade as needed. Plus I still need to finish the top and doors.

The truck and I survived a 90 ish mile trip to Lake Bartlett and back home today. It's a trip with windy roads, mountain grades, and it was hot as hell. Got a swim at the lake and some off road driving in. The fake 45 preformed flawlessly. Never got hot or acted weird. No vapor lock.... all good. I even did some donuts in the dirt.

That was one of the best first trips in a Cruiser I have ever had. Woo hoo.....

You could start a cruiser restoration business and make some coin!
Where do I sign up. Mine needs relatively little work in comparison. Although we have so much more rust here… the rockers are essentially gone and will need to be completely replaced. :(

Today was the first day below 100 degrees in a long time. I took a 50 plus mile cruise including some interstate cruising to visit a friend. Got to check out his Ultra 4 style Willys pickup and his newest flat fender build. Super cool stuff.
The fake 45 ran like a top and got a ton of nods and thumbs up.

Always been a fan of old Willys… can’t say the same of many newer vehicles that bear the same brand name.

I got these horns off ebay. Installed them tonight. Still need to figure out the horn button deal using this horn contact recommended by @firemanj92 .

Side note.....I will dress that wiring in nicely at a later date.

For starters, I'd recommend using the horn button to ground a 30 amp headlight relay. I've found I can get them for a couple bucks at the Western Star Trucks dealer and they will last forever. It must be 30 years ago that I replaced my stock relay and it has never given me any trouble.

The horns are wired as per the factory using the relay. Why would you think they are not? I just need to deal with the horn button contact.

Minor thread hijack..........took the LX470 to Jerome to vist the Gold King Mine, then run the Smiley Rock trail, and camp on top of Woodchute Mountain.

Some pix from Gold King. Really it's a ghost town and vintage truck and mining equipment museum of sorts.
