I have never seen this discussed here. I have an OEM Toyota windshield in my FJ40 that I have removed for bodywork. If I installed it backwards (with the slightly pitted outside face pointing inward) would it make a difference on a sunny day?

In Colorado, windshields get hammered by flying rocks and this one is only slightly pitted (no reason to replace it). Having the pits on the inside would also make the wipers work more effectively.

Just wondered if anyone had tried this.

RainX. I retreat my outside glass often. Above about 30 mph you do not need the wipers. I use FogX on the inside glass.

I can usually just walk up to Elsie and kick the bumper and all the frost falls off no scraping needed. I also do a coat on the head and the other outside lights. Halloween I spray all the door gaskets with silicon and squirt WD40 in the key holes.

You can't buy 'Toyota' glass new in this country - Heritage program won't ship glass. I like the snob appeal of OEM glass. I guess I'll try reversing it, and if it looks horrid in the sunlight, I'll let you all know.

I have a stk windshield glass that's lightly scared from the wipers that I was hoping to use. I did some research after trying to polish it with rubbing compound. Evidently there is a compound for polishing glass but I decided I didn't want to spend the money to get the compound and pads. I'm in the process of patching up my frame and will eventually approach a local old school glass shop to see if they can polish it. If they cant, I'll probably have them cut a piece and install it.

If someone knows enough to recognize OEM glass; they will also recognize that it's in backwards. That more than cancels out the originality. On a more serious note, pretty sure the pitting will diffuse the light rays regardless of which side the pit is on although I can see a case for it being somewhat less if on the inside; but I doubt it will eliminate the issue. Final thought, if the pitting is so bad that it's impacting your windshield wipers, then it's really time to replace the glass.

Cruiser Corp ships new windshields.

Ohh, I forgot - this is Mud. Harder on truck evaluations than a Pebble Beach judge. My current OEM glass is only very lightly pitted, so this isn't a case where new (unless I crack it, reinstalling it) makes sense.

What are you all paying for a new windshield?
Only one glass shop up here would touch it and wanted $390, just for the glass.
Haven't used them but here is an option for $339

I just had a new windshield cut and installed in a 74 frame for 250.
