Ok Guys,

Here's my thoughts. What if we connected a hose to the bottom of the collection canister and attached a check valve and then a cheap inline fuel pump. I think the oil collected in the canister could then be pumped back into the engine via the dipstick tube or some other means.

The fuel pump could be wired to a momentary switch and every once in a while you could push the switch and empty the tank from the cab.

Thoughts?

Installed

Finally found a separator with a twist drain on the bottom. Got a new PVC hose and spliced it in. I am going to work on a bracket this week.

OK, 500+ miles on mine, and just emptied. 10ml of oil. So, 100ml over 5,000 miles, or 1 Liter for 50,000 miles. So my rig with about 150,000 miles has previously ingested three liters of oil. :hhmm:

My filter is the Jegs one which is actually a Parker. Unscrewing the clear base also allows for full disassembly and cleaning of the whole unit, which is nice. 10 Minutes, and back running.

Steve nice recap.

I emptied mine out on Monday evening and after about 900 miles had about 12-15cc of oil like fluid. I also had a little water in there probably due to condinsation in the engine.

I guess to keep things "empty" and someone had a concern if your wheeling that it "could" tilt and flow a large amoutn at one time; Might be a good idea to pop the hood, unscrew and dump into the valve cover while getting gas.... I need to get off my lazy ass to a store to get this and just do it.

what is the capacity of the little containers?

Working capacity (volume below the filter) by my very rough calculations is about 15-20mL.

I have had the greddy catch can on my rig for 87,000 miles. The pcv hose is routed around the front of the intake where the catch can is mounted next to the brake booster. This has been a great mod and something worth doing. I prefer the can or seperator be mounted away from the heat and mounting location does not interfere with a dual battry mod.

Buck

I have seen one mounted on the oil cap that drains direct back into the engine, can't remember where. I think the pcv valve was after the catch can part to make that idea work.

In regards to draining the fluid collected by these separators, personally I wouldn't put that crap back in my crankcase. The small amount I have collected does not have the same viscosity (among other properties) as the Shell Rotella 15W40 that I run my truck. Better safe than sorry even though it is a small amount.

x2 on that notion. The oil was more like 90w sludge. No way I would put this back into the crank, and 100% pleased that it is not going into the intake!

Yup just recycle that poo poo
Don't punish your engine

So after a few hundred miles this is what the oil looks like in the catch, to me it looks like water is mixing in there. From others pics this is not what I should be seeing. Maybe air is leaking in through the drain but wouldent that settle out? This has been sitting for over 24 hours when the pic was taken. I plan on pulling it and sealing the drain better. Oil is Mobil-1 synthetic 5w30 SUV with about 2K miles on it, looks fine on the dipstick. Any thoughts would be appreciated:cheers:

I had some similar looking material in mine. It is more than likely water (from condensation in the engine) and oil, and air mixing together as it moves through the hot engine. I wouldn't worry to much about it. Just monitor things.
