Mine's (Kobalt) been holding up well and working well. It still won't fix valve stem seals.

Is this something I should do for my 91 ? Who has done it so I can see the set up? Really like the look of the glass filter. Thanks

yes you can. super easy and cheap

Need a pic of the set up so I can add it to my 91 w/3FE ? Thanks

Just ordered the JEGS one. I was itching to improve one more thing. Thank God I saw this thread.

Put the Jeg's one on the wifes to make it easy for the wife to drain and her not to have any issues on draining it.

ERG80,
Where did you find the elbow?
Went to a plumbing store and that kind of elbow was not found.

Figured out a way to secure the filter and added a 90' elbow to keep the hose from touching anything. The filter doesn't move at all now.

I sure happy that the junk is not into the intake manifold. Just hope it does not turn into too much hassle

I'm not collecting very much oil in mine, but I am using a different style.

I would expect better performance if the separator was mounted in cooler location than somewhere hot like by the exhaust manifold.

Well after about 10 months of service, I replaced my Kobalt separator yesterday afternoon with a new Kobalt modified unit that I put together this past fall. The reason for installing a new unit was the formers reservoir could no longer be removed from the aluminum housing due to the plastic baking its self to the housing. As I investigated further, I found (as others may have) that the separator is rated only to 125*F. To get around this issue of having to the remove the reservoir each time to drain the fluid/gunk, I installed a 1/2" Allen set screw in the bottom and helped to sealed it with some Teflon tape. This will allow me to remove the set screw and drain its contents, versus messing with removing the reservoir.

Another point worth mentioning about my first separator, especially to all those who have installed the Kobalt unit. Make sure that periodically you check the screw the holds the filter element to the aluminum housing, mine must have loosened up over the last month or so, because the screw had completely backed out and the filter was rattling around in the reservoir. This had also resulted in a lot of crap getting blown into my intake manifold. Additionally, my PCV valve was all gummed up and the PCV grommet was rock hard. I replaced both with OEM units, while installing my revised separator, as well as installing a new OEM hose. The old one was rock hard and cracking.

I attached a few pictures of the modifications I made to the reservoir.

I will report any new findings.

What is the part number for this or did I miss it?

Here you go

Dang it anyway ERG80 beat me to it......I am to slow.

Parts I used.
Kobalt 1/4" Mini Air Filter p/n221024 (79686-00169) $12.68
2x 1/4 Bard 1/4" MIP Hose Barb Adapter p/n27970 (48643-07449) $2.32 each

As far as the deal on the bottom, I am going to seal it with a small bolt.

I will report later with pictures of my solution.
