I've also seen lots of people having trouble getting virtualbox to work, never got it to work on my laptop with windows 10 64bit but got it to work on my other laptop with windows 11 64bit.
One thing I did was enabling virtualization technology in the bios and think I had some other help from one or both of these videos but don't remember exactly tbh:

Hello I’m trying to log in but the key code I was given is not working it just asks me to put in the code again no error or anything

Id: be4f7057d13d683

Any help is appreciated

Hey all.
First time poster here found the site looking for a way to get TS. Thanks to op who have made this very easy for a lot of people and possible for some of us, just a little more work. Hope the last part didn't sound rude because that wasn't my intention, it's just that I'm from Europe and as some others I first couldn't get it to work when I selected Europe because TS wanted a registration key and it didn't work. After a couple of days with trial and errors I have gotten it to work and will try my best to explain how I did it (I'm from Norway so English isn't my first language)

What I first did was delete everything from VirtualBox but not sure if that's necessary.
In VirtualBox I went in to my computer C:\program files\toyota diagnostics\techstream\env

In there there's a file called IT3Usercustom (it's configuration settings),
1. dobbel Click that one.
2. Scroll to the bottom and you should see user1 profile setting in the window.
If you see approximately 18 lines down from there there's a line called:
[Registration - NA] just change NA with EU
When that's done, if you see 4 lines down you'll see a line called:
[TBR - NA] now you probably have guessed it, just change NA with EU
When that's done just select save with Ctrl+s or press File in the top and select save. Close window and try to launch techstream with the icon in the desktop window or whatever it's called.

Hope I made it understandable but I'm not the best at explaining these things, especially not in English. If it's not clear just ask here and I'll try my best to help but have a lot of things going on now and might take a day or two

Hey @Harald Haarfagre which version of Techstream did you use buddy? v12.x or a higher version of techstream?

Hey.
I used the one in the image file I downloaded from the first page here, for me it was v12.x.

I also have a v.18.x on another laptop which came on a cd with the cable I bought from Aliexpress
Don't know how to edit post but forgot to say that the v18.x version had a completely different installation method and didn't use VB.
The reason I wanted V.12.x is that it seems to have more functions than V.18.x from what I've seen but might be that I haven't had time to check to much

I am connected to my 2005 LX 470 via techstream. It says available commands under active test for driver seat height control are “Up” and “Down”. But I can’t figure how to issue the command to move the seat up. How do I do that?

(My seat position switch is not working so I want to move the seat up)

Hello, I don't have a laptop, but I have an old Dell Dimension 3000 with Windows 7. I'm just wondering if I can use this computer for TechStream on my 5th Gen Camry?

Delete the appliance from VB, turn off WiFi or disable network adapter in your VB settings, reinstall with your downloaded TIS image. The key is already there, should launch. I had some issues when I recently got TS up and running on my 2014 MacBook Air. Had to make some adjustments for the VCI cable I have as well.

Unfortunately doing the following did not work. Image was from page 1. I deleted the image from VB, turned off wifi, disabled the adapter, re-installed image, plugged the cable into the laptop and ran the cable firmware program which detected the cable fine. I started TS , setup TS Configuration , Area: Other, Lang: English, next screen, I left everything as is and selected OK. Then settings, VIM sel, Xhorse -..., selected OK, then plugged the cable in to car (already in laptop) ignition was on, Connect to Vehicle, prompted for Key, added key, then told key has expired. Key was from the text file included. So Can someonw please send me a key that has not expired for this? Or have I still missed anything? Many thx.

Tried to run this on M1 Mac. At first I got an error about software being too old, I changed the date in the VM and it seemed to start initializing, but then gave an error that it's unable to communicate to the VIM. I see the VCI interface connected to the VM and able to read it's firmware (1.4.1). Any thoughts?

Was able to get this working today after a few trouble shooting items. Sorry to hear for all those that are having issues. I was nervous I was going to also be in that bucket, but thankfully made it work.

  • The Rig: 2001 LX470
  • The Computer: 2012 Macbook Pro Retina (Intel)
  • The Cable: I ordered the v18 version on amazon (same link as the post above) "VCI J2534 Cable Fit for Toyota TIS Techstream" Given the firmware is the same (V1.4.8) between the three options listed there, it probably doesn't matter which one you get?
  • I followed @getco instructions in the first post and everything installed well
  • I got the "Unable to connect to VIM" message with the first attempt out of the box. I found this post (How-To: TechStream In 5 Minutes - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/how-to-techstream-in-5-minutes.1034923/post-14687527) which had the fix for me:
    • "1. You need to make sure your cable can be seen by Windows. Make sure the USB device is mounted in VirtualBox settings: VirtualBox -> Devices -> USB -> Select your cable (mine had M-VCI or similar in the name - via USB-C adapter). Windows will beep you once it's found it."
  • I got it to all load up, but AHC wasn't there! Doh! Then I read you have to make sure you select LX470 when you start Techstream. Once I did that, I got it all to work!

Huge thanks to getco and all those that have helped trouble shoot this. And sending good vibes to those out there still struggling with this that you too can figure it out.

Was able to check my AHC pressures today, did some torsion bar turns, and what a nice improvement!!!
Your specific comment helped a lot! I have a 2012 MBP as well, and I followed your steps (on top of the original post) and everything worked out perfectly. Thanks dude!

Hi all,
Just seeking some assistance - I've successfully installed Techstream in a couple of previous PC's successfully.
However I've been trying to get this to work on a new PC without success.
I've followed the instructions to the letter, have tried previous versions of virtual box, fresh installs of each, rebooted multiple times and come up with the same error.
It just won't accept the software key.
To be clear this is the downloadable disc image at the beginning of this thread with techstream preinstalled.
I'd be grateful for any insight as to why this might be the case?
Many thanks!
Mark :)

If you're recieving to message that licence key has expired, and you're trying to use another region than US, the solution should be on the page before this one
Yes that's what I am experiencing. I will try your method tomorrow, I just changed my VB folders from NA to Other because I reside in Australia, if it doesn't work then I'll try EU and select EU as region.

Jeg er også norsk, tusen takk. Håper det funker imorgen!

Harald - you are a legend.
After hours trying to figure out what the problem was I followed your instructions above and boom - Techstream is working! Thank you so much!
It does not even ask for the registration key after the modification.
The steps I went through before following your instructions were to load the disk image into virtual box, fire up the Techstream virtual machine, start Techstream and then select "Other" for the region in the configuration menu.
I then closed Techstream and made the modifications to the IT3Usercustom file within the virtual NT environment as described above.
Note that for "Other" regions the code to replace the "NA" with is "OT".
Started Techstream and pressed connect to vehicle and it went straight in without asking for a registration code.
Love your work!
Kind regards,
Mark :)
