I currently have the ver 12.xxx.xxx and is working fine but was wondering if it can work with newer Toyota models (2021,2,3 etc.)? Did not see anyone mentioning that a newer ver is required

My 2018 GX460 hooked up fine to techstream using the install method in OP. Was able to program keys without issue.

Data list isn't working, have tried 1.4.8 and 2.0.4 firmware cables. Anyone else have this issue?

FWIW, ordered this last week and it works really well. No laptop needed and it seems to give all the functionality of techstream.

Sounds good.
Can it read all systems on your UZJ100, including AHC and body ECUs?
Reading on Amazon, I couldn't find anything about M-OBD compatibility, which is the t0yota version of OBD. That is the only protocol supported outside of the US, afaik, for the t0yota vehicles from the last millennium. If this works on the US UZJ100, it doesn't mean that it would work on HDJ100 in EU or OZ, but it would be wonderful if it does.

Not sure if this answers your question, but during the setup it does ask your region and there were three or four options. North America, and Europe were two of them. Can’t remember the others.

After my old single use (tech stream) windows laptop took a sh*t, I tried the Mac variant vm outlined in OP’s first post. I encountered the following error. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

That's odd since someone just posted a couple weeks ago that they were successfully using an older version on mac.
I have a new cable coming this week and recently downloaded the mac friendly files from page one.
I'm hoping it works since I'm on the road for a while and 1000 miles from the shop I worked at.

You may need to make sure you're not connected to the internet when starting up TS after install

great...I didn't think of this and I was DEFINITELY online. I will try it next time. Thank you!!!

Up and running. Stoked that I can do more than check engine faults while out on my adventures. I have an older Launch system that does only the basics and wanted something that can keep me going when far from home.

Used Version 12 for a Macbook Pro Mid-2015 from page 1 link. Had to manually select the usb the first go-around, auto connects now. Also had to re-scale the TIS display as it was too small to read.

I may be too late for the specific user I'm replying to, but I'm on Windows 10, not MacOS like some of the recent users who've been successful in getting the #1 post techstream running.

I delved into figuring out why the Windows XP VirtualBox image, it would crash upon loading. Safe Mode would run, but prohibit access to the USB devices, especially the mVCI cable.

Turns out, that Windows 10 often is enabling Virtualization-based Security by default, so you want to disable that for the virtual machine to run and have access to your USB devices when starting normally (and not in safe mode):
  1. Check if virtualization is enabled.
    1. Windows Key > Type 'system information' > enter.
    2. Scroll down in 'System Summary' to the record "Virtualization-based Security | Running"
  2. Disable VBS/HVCI
    1. Windows Key > Type 'core isolation' > enter
    2. Toggle 'Memory Integrity' to 'off'. (Keep it off if it is already off) then reboot (don't need to if it's already off)

    3. Win + R > 'regedit' > enter
    4. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceGuard
    5. Set EnableVirtualizationBasedSecurity to 0 (zero). (if it does not exist, then do not worry about editing this registry key, and proceed to the next direction).

    6. Windows Key > Type 'turn windows features on or off' > enter.
    7. Scroll down to 'Virtual Machine Platform' and uncheck the box.
    8. Reboot your machine.
  3. Redo step 1.1 & 1.2 to confirm that the entry says 'Not Running'.

It took until 2.6 for me - but others it may be one of the prior steps to disable VBS. With VBS disabled, I'm now successfully able to start the Techstream virtual machine without issue.
Thanks for this! I am running windows 11. I have followed these steps and can confirm they were all completed after restarting my cpu. For some reason, I am unable to install the virtualbox portion of the software due to a nonspecific fatal error during installation. I even tried the newest version of VM from oracle with the same result. I bought a new low end dell laptop for this whole process, but cannot get the thing to work. Any insight would be appreciated as I'm not as tech savvy as I used to be. TIA.

Hello, I got vxdiag nano working in a vm via vx manager but when i install Techstream the patch files don't seem correct and every link to the patch seems dead or removed. Does anyone have a good link to v18 patch files?

Hey everyone. Thank you @getco for sharing this guide with us. I was able to get Techstream running on an M2 air. I'm using a generic VCI J2534 cable purchased from Amazon (click on hyperlink).

I was able to get around the "Unable to connect to vim" error message by selecting the XHorse MVCI driver from the TIS main menu.

1. Within UTM, make sure you're passing your USB device to the VM. You'll see a checkmark next to the device.

2. Navigate to where Techstream is installed - C:\Program Files\Toyota Diagnostics\Teachstream\bin

3. Open "MainMenu" application. You can disregard the registration window, click on "Cancel".

@1emerson1 , I have the same hardware as you. I tried your workaround, but I get stopped at step 3. I get this window:

I've tried canceling, I've tried every region and cancelling the registration screen, but nothing seems to work.

bump to hopefully get some tech guru help. I'm still not able to launch the virtualbox even after following the OP instructions and post 1,148. TIA.

Hey all.
First time poster here found the site looking for a way to get TS. Thanks to op who have made this very easy for a lot of people and possible for some of us, just a little more work. Hope the last part didn't sound rude because that wasn't my intention, it's just that I'm from Europe and as some others I first couldn't get it to work when I selected Europe because TS wanted a registration key and it didn't work. After a couple of days with trial and errors I have gotten it to work and will try my best to explain how I did it (I'm from Norway so English isn't my first language)

What I first did was delete everything from VirtualBox but not sure if that's necessary.
In VirtualBox I went in to my computer C:\program files\toyota diagnostics\techstream\env

In there there's a file called IT3Usercustom (it's configuration settings),
1. dobbel Click that one.
2. Scroll to the bottom and you should see user1 profile setting in the window.
If you see approximately 18 lines down from there there's a line called:
[Registration - NA] just change NA with EU
When that's done, if you see 4 lines down you'll see a line called:
[TBR - NA] now you probably have guessed it, just change NA with EU
When that's done just select save with Ctrl+s or press File in the top and select save. Close window and try to launch techstream with the icon in the desktop window or whatever it's called.

Hope I made it understandable but I'm not the best at explaining these things, especially not in English. If it's not clear just ask here and I'll try my best to help but have a lot of things going on now and might take a day or two
