Kids are old enough to stay behind so Mrs and I did the fall ranch trip to help M&D with some chores before they drain the water and head home, amazingly warm for the week after our Thanksgiving…I was in a shirt most afternoons.

My brother came up for a day to spend his 55th B day with us so we got on the bikes a bit too.

Hell of a load of hay if each of those round bales are about 1,000 lbs. Do they feed it out or sell it? Always hated fence work. Doing repairs or are you laying it down for the winter?

Hiya All,
Gonna chime in with a big ol’ “doing great” report, from over here. A lot to catch up on since I’ve been on here last. Been quite a few years, but after some lengthy periods of issues with the Pig, it’s finally back on the road. It started having big issues a week or two before one of the pig parties, of course, years ago. Limping around on 4 of 6 cylinders and developing leaks faster than I could keep count. I got lost trying to track down issues and lost hope. Not gonna lie….the subject of selling it to get it outta the driveway was brought up quite a few times. I think both my wife & myself knew we’d regret that, ultimately.
I think it sat about 4 years or so. I kept the rust at bay with a bit of preventative and another coat of paint. We Finally Saved our pennies till we could get help. The guys at classic cruisers helped me chase down fuel & electrical problems and get it sorted. Drove 35 miles yesterday from their shop in Salida, around 7k ft elev I think, to home at over 10k elev.
One minor hiccup after fueling up, due to what I’m thinking was pressure in the tank released and then the negative tank pressure starving it of fuel a bit, but it only stuttered some after pulling onto the highway from the gas station then was fine. I think I can figure that evap can/vapor seperator mod out after searching around here.
Grateful we Never let it slip away and happy to see all the familiar names here still…..and beyond stoked to be behind the wheel of the Pig Rig again!

Beautiful country! So, what are the excavators working on?
Dad is working through the rough old hay fields to redo them, this ridge still had trees on it so knocked them down and stripping the (very little) top soil off before leveling out to gain some usable field.

Yes they average 1000 lbs, he sells the whole works to a rancher nearby that feeds all winter, dad has no herd and locks up before the snow flies…it’s his retirement project not a “job”

Fencing sure can suck at times but this was just a quick tree repair, of course it missed the gate by 2 feet and crushed the H frame…typical

I actually thought I’d be doing way more fencing but M&D actually finished a big stretch on their own before we got up there, hard work for 79 & 76 couple but keeping them young.

This was about 250m stretch all grubbed out and re-built. I’ll be very happy if I’m in the shape they are at that age.

My Snap-on set of screwdrivers was starting to show it's age and I needed to get a second set so I bought some Williams ( Same as Snap-on for those that don't know) and I have worn the tips in just a week or so of use. A friend of mine is friends with the one of the local Snappy dealers and took my #2 Phillips to get new blades and I have worn both out again in a very short time. The original #2 Phillips lasted 35 years I've gone through the next 4 in two months.

I've recently been on a buy USA kick and found channel lock screw drivers are US made and bought several and so far they are great.
CHANNELLOCK®: High-Quality Hand Tools Made to Last - https://channellock.com/

I also just bought a set of US Made Wright tools wrenches to replace an aging set and they are also great. They make sockets too.

If you really want to treat yourself to something special buy at least one set of the US made "Malco Eagle Grip Curved Jaw Locking Pliers"

Are you buying straight off these websites?

Question for y'all - who makes a decent, affordable, 1/2", palm-drive ratchet? I feel like I would get some use out of that.

Nice! Congrats! So glad to hear that you persevered.

Do these walnuts carry a decent premium or the walnuts pretty plentiful around you? We have several pecan trees but in our region many others also have pecan trees with specialized ways to harvest like tree shakers. We crawl around base of trees and pick them up, sucks since I don’t even like them and kids are allergic to them. However wife loves doing it!

Oh Man, the old family farm had three pecan trees on it and it was a yearly battle with the squirrels to see who got them first, love pecans!
Happy to send some your way Ron when we are home to pick some up. They’re dropping as we speak.

Walnut prices suck right now, last year we got 35 cents a lb, break even is 60-65. I’m giving it 1 more year, if prices don’t improve- firewood!
Get one of these for picking up, this is for large nuts(how bout that Bob), but the make smaller, hardly any bending
