Technically you do want to stretch the bolt or stud, just not to the point of “plastic yield”."Torque to yield, and then back off a quarter turn"

A 318 Poly!! Been a long time since I saw one of those. “Froze lifters”?? AFAIK, they were all solid lifter designs.
The 5/16” adjusters on the arms are known to back out when worn. The remedy used to be to rap the outside of the arm with a dead blow hammer to close-up the threaded hole and restore the grip of the imperfect threads.
That truck is purdy!!

So the oil galleys running through the lifter bores got packed full of nasty gunk and then sat that way for 20 something years. Lifters for the rear right cylinder (4 or 8?) and second from rear on the left (3 or 5?) sat on the peak of the cam lobe during that time and corroded enough to the top of the lifter bores that the spring pressure could not overcome enough to push them down as the engine rotated.
Pistons are dished with valve recesses. Probably a lower compression engine. And the valves (at max lift) didn’t connect with the pistons?
Lucky!
It’s not mine Jim. Just helping a friend out.Impressively straight old Power Wagon. Don't let it be the "squirrel" that delays your Pig build.
Son had eventful weekend, came home from school in Gunnison with his Girlfriend of 10 months. Since her parents were gone they stayed with us all weekend. On way out of town they go to house to feed her cat and she breaks up with him. Little shell shocked he stays another night and leaves yesterday morning in my 2003 F350 since his Tacoma acting up. Hits deer south of Bueno Vista so new hood, grill and light in order now.
So the son has flipped his 2001 Tacoma, destroying it when he was 16, backed into light pole at firework stand in my nice GMC 2500 and now scarred my 2003 ford. Only thing that matters is no one hurt. I know he was already bummed so all I said "it's only metal" and move on.
...comic sin...
Lol, I see where you went with that. Fingers faster then brain which is becoming more common these days.If this hasn't been invented, it needs to be!
J/K, I hope you passed...
