How fast have you taken your fj40 up to?

50 mph is a fast as mine can go.:crybaby:

Hit 90mph once down hill 4:11 gears 33 inch tires 9000 ft above sea level , 2f with a 3 f head (bit more of compresion) and a h151 trany 4200 rpms it was scary s***t and I was prepared to see a rod thru the block , did not happend but 1000 miles later the hybrid 2f call it quits , so now it is getting a 1fz 4.5 litre 24 valves transplant , and is going to be ready tomorrow ! of course it will not se 90 again! to damn fast for a brick!

Is it doable with 4.1 axles?????:D
Will I end up in a heap of metal????:D:D

well, mine isn't exactly stock.......

might try for a new record tomorrow. :steer:
rusty new hood.webp

I routinely run 70 plus on the freeway.
Smart? Probably not. short wheelbase, high center of gravity. not designed for it.

I am running a dynamic balanced 2F, headers, Holley, cammed, with original 3 speed, and 33X9.50 BFG's

Cracked 75mph one time downhill, tailwind, stars aligned and sun at my back (all on accident) and felt like I had broken the sound barrier. Much more comfortable uphill on a 20% grade in four low at 2 mph!

My first one had headers, cam shaft and a Weber carb. 4in lift with 33's and 2f engine. not sure about anything else. I bought it off a mechanic and he did some thing to her to say the least. She was crazy fast and fun. We had her up to 105, according to my friends RX7. This also was in Golden Colorado at the time. Young dumb and full of well you get the drift. I regularly drive here in AZ and I keep up with traffic n the freeways. She really likes 65 70 thats when she is smooth. I have gotten this one up to 90 or so down hill out of Ridgway Co.. Just a Weber on her now and 35,s. One thing I forgot is I bought this brace things you weld on to you frame to rollcage in the rear. That has made a world of difference on rear wobble at any speed. One of my favorite upgrades on her.

Where did you get the brace? Pic?

I call BS

This whole thread is a bunch crap. Everyone knows that the human body cannot survive in an FJ40 going more than 60 mph. 52 mph if the top is off.

Its a scientific fact, check snopes

:D

I just took mine on the highway, which I never do, just so I could reply to this thread.
63 mph on a slight downhill with the 2F floored. Yes, I was scared.

You people are crazy. Someone took their fj40 to 120 mph! The fastest I have taken mine was 60mph on the freeway and it felt like the engine was going to blow up and the rig would get bounced off the freeway. Not only that but there was so much wind, I could barely hear the engine screaming at me to SLOW IT DOWN KID-YOU'RE KILLING ME!!!! I normally park my butt in the slow lane and prefer about 55mph and only go to 60 if the motor homes or spandex-clad cyclists here in CA start passing me up. I couldn't imagine how many pairs of underwear I would go through driving at the speeds people are reporting.

On the I-10 in Ontario California straight and flat, I was at 95mph and the windscreen came in on the top right out of the rubber. Thank whatever and whoever for it getting stopped by the wiper motor and the visor arms. I used up all my luck that time, no chance on wining the lotto. Ill keep it below 75 for now on.

Original 1962 135 hp 1f motor down steep freeway hill with tail wind.....75-80mph. It was as much as it seemed it could possibly bear. Never plan on it again.

the funny part about this thread is that i've driven my 40 ( 90 something in the dirt ) and 45 wagon ( about 95 on the freeway ) faster than i like to drive my vortec'd 80 on 35s.
