got a pic of the kenlowe scoop?
*nevermind, saw it in search, thx

do you guys think a hood vent would improve conditions at #6? (HG PM?) Seems like a lot of heat buildup at the back end and this could solve it??
btw, I agree w/ Ali that rear facing would be far more effective. even tho lower pressure, the flow is still going into the scoop.

Here is a 3rd gen 4R -someone I know- and she indicated that removing the fenderwell liners made a big difference. The hood venting has potential

My rear facing Kenlowe scoop definately improved cooling. No numbers to back that up, just a lot less electric fan usage.

PICS???? :D

I'll take some when day light returns. Just looked to see if I already had some and I guess I don't take enough pictures of my truck:doh:

Sorry, day light didn't last long enough today for pics, I'll try again tomorrow.

Might be off the topic a bit, but when it rains I see the rain drops on the hood not moving that much even at speed.

That might be an indication that there's just not that much air flow right above the hood. I have a large bull bar, so that "might" have something to do with it, but...

Just my ¥2.

Wildsmith,

Nice scoop and a nice rig. I didn't see it on Kenlowe's website, might you have a link for it?

I assume there is a fan in this thing? If so, is there a way for you to see if the it rotates on its own at hwy speeds? Just trying to ascertain if there's a decent amount of air flow coming out of the hood.

Thanks.

I can't see it on Kenlowe's web site either. I phoned them and ordered it after seeing an advert in a UK 4x4 magazine. The scoop & fan was on the same advert as their radiator fans and transmission oil coolers. It has a 10" electric fan under it which I doubt is turned by passing air but has plenty of room for air to flow through it. You cut a 10" round hole, bolt the fan on and fix the scoop over the top. The fan is wired to my radiator fans at the moment but I may get a 2 temp switch and bring this one in first.

wildsmith,
any particular reason it's offset to the drivers side? also does the heat or smell travel into the vent at the base of the windscreen?
thanks

It's offset (passenger side in the UK:D) so that I didn't have to cut any of the structural parts of the bonnet. There is sometimes a hot oil smell but I suspect if I cleaned the oil I spilt off the engine it wouldn't be a problem, just haven't got round to it. With the scoop fitted my electric fans don't come on as often but when they do if you put you hand by the scoop opening it's like using one of those hot air hand dryers.

here is a good pic of my hood
red= hi pressure
yellow=streaking (turbulence, but movement)
green=no air movement - low pressure/neg pressure

interesting the arb light tabs create a litte V shaped neg pressure zone, maybe b/c of their upside-down U shape.

Dang it...thanks guys. Just when I had foregone the thought of cutting a hole in my hood for an air evacuator of some sort ( I prefer the louvres and Kenlowe) you guys go and get me all riled up about it again:flipoff2:. I love the louvres BTW. The Kenlowe looks sweet and thats awesome it comes with a fan.:cheers:

That is one sick ride, BTW, wildsmith...

Bringing the thread back from the dead... Updates?? Forward or rearward facing?? Pics of how the scoop mounts to the hood?? Any water damage?? Thanks

My 80 has been RIP for a year but mine was rearward facing so it wouldn't scoop stuff I didn't want, riveted to the hood and there was no problem with water entry / damage.

I like that lots!!! Does it have an actual baffle inside with drain tube for rain or snow weather? Part Number? :cheers:

x2
there is heaps of TD 80s and 105 series and 7x series cruisers with these scoops put in

On wildsmiths hood it looks a lot like an induction scope design ( air movement across the hood creats a vaccum) which would pull air/heat from the engine compartment . which would explain smelling stuff in the cab as the air intake for the heater and air is right there ,,, recycle the air in cab and you will not smell anything.

I still have this hood scoop. Never installed it and was looking a the hood louvers Rob, Summitcruisers and others did

Anyone install one of these and have results?
