Its not very nice to change the title of a thread but sometimes life itself brings the example of the most incredible and unexpected changes .. simply need to adapt.
As the title (new title) suggests this HJ47 is not going to be completed with the 12HT as unfortunately I traded her to a 1988 all original FJ62. Brown vinyl and swing out (barn type)back doors.
I always wanted one of these so I said all right, I will put my beautifully progressing 12HT in there instead the 3F.
So this is the story in a nutshell, and I will post some photos of the 60 old girl.
Following on the engine, I have some progress there as well.

Preparation for the head gasket installation. Lifters washed, oiled. new OEM head bolts final washed in kero and lightly oiled. Deck and the head final cleaned with acetone. Torque wrench and other tools all lined up handy.

Head is in place, bolts torqued down as it is prescribed by Toyota in the FSM. Starting from the middle in crisscross pattern to 113Nm in several passes. My wrench reads in Nm so I did all equally hand tight then 75-95-113 then a double check. Its a good practice to give 5-10mins in between final passes all things can settle nicely.
Done.
Btw, some folks like rattle gun them down.. well I like to feel all the bolts going down with the same resistance. That way I ammsure whatis happening in the threads. Of course threads must be re-tapped and blown out with compressed air beforehand.

Next move is the rocker assy and the cover. All cleaned, washed oiled, cover sprayed, etc.
Got to set the gaps, the FSM mention the hot settings. IN 08” OUT 014” slight drag on the feeler gauge. I preset cold on 07/013 and will readjust once its running.its not very convenient due to the removal of the crossover air pipes but I just can’t get accurate cold.
Will see..

Great work, beautiful. Can't wait to see the end result (FJ62 owner who dreams of a 12ht).

G'day Koxfarm, Lovely work. The engine looks superb, keep the pictures coming. Cheers, Ben.
Cheers mate, I know the 12HT is an old bone and this topic has been chewed off several times but I think it’s still one of the best diesel engines .. despite all the 24valve turbo or the V8. Its still the legendary 12HT and as a matter fact most of them still on the track taking the abuse most other would not handle.
The 12HT’s simplicity is just fascinating its very nice to work with every part of it. What a shame however that its becoming harder and harder to come by especially the ones still unmolested. This particilar had only 250k in the clock which is really nothing at all. These diesels like consistency, regular usage and regular maintenance so they will do a million easily. If there are too many on’s and off’s the seals will dry out and they will estart leak everywhere. That was my moment.
Once its finished it will eat the late model common rail V8 for breakfast.
Even if it sounds very biassed thats how I think about the 12HT

Flywheel is of course machined for the new clutch. There were a significant out about 4thou - that is due to the now addressed thrust washer.
Injectors got rebuilt and tested by MTQ. That is something along with the turbo and the diesel pump that simply cannot be done without having specialised workshop.
Next steps are the inlet and exhaust manifolds. The oem engine kit nicely covers all these gaskets. I run new oem studs for the exhaust side. I’ve seen people upgrading the M8 studs to M10 and even welding up the two piece manifold. I think those are not really good changes. I just follow the FSM.
