Good to know, I’ve always heard that the 2F is on the slower slide. I don’t have a functioning temperature gauge and it didn’t come with a tachometer so I haven’t felt comfortable, pushing it. According to this thread, it sounds like the 2F will scream pretty loud, but it can handle it. I just need to get the temperature gauge./sending unit fixed and some sort of tachometer so I can monitor things before I push it.You can only run 45-50mph with a 2F/4-speed something is wrong, and a 5-speed won’t fix that. You should be able to cruise at least 70mph as-is if it’s running correctly.

FJ40 max cruising speed
I've got a 76 FJ40 stock 2F and 4 speed tranny. It has well worn 31" tires and I'm assuming stock 4.11 gears in the diffs. Going by seat of the pants, the 2F just doesn't sound or feel like it wants to go over 45mph. In other words, if I had a 5th gear I'd be shifting at the 40 - 45 mph...
