HOLY CRAP this Post is old and I'm still replying? I need a life

its a funny thing... years ago I use to laugh inside to myself at an owner who put the jack where it would be inaccessible in the fj40 rolled on the particular side the jack was mounted to...then after a few years of wheeling and seeing vehicles lay over, myself included, I realized it doesn't really matter where the jack is mounted because its not like Id be using it anyway if that was the issue LOL

actually my issue is I have NO clue where to get a good hold on my Fj40 with a Hi lift. I can't use the bumperettes cause they bend and I can't use the rear fender cause it bends or the front ...I can only use my Front bumper (note bumper in avatar) and I just use a chain around the frame from the back if I here to ( again note chain on front bumper in avatar)

I ended up installing my hi lift on the side of my roof rack, that way if I do roll or something the whole rack will most likely disengage and tear off from the roof anyway :)

but i do like the way the jack is mounted to the passenger side. I can't use that door anyway so Maybe in the future its Kaymar to the rescue! we'll see.

I looked into putting the HiLift on the passenger side of my 78, but found that after installing running boards on the new Aqualu 3/4 aluminum tub that putting the jack on the running board, the jack claw, all the way down, would not fit under the front door. So I store it behind the front seats since I don't have a rear heater.

I’m moving mine from my passenger side running board to my front bumper. Picked up some mounts from BTB. Will be selling my FJ Mount in the coming days.

My wheels are slotted... So, I can lift 44, from any wheel, using the high lift "lift mate" attachment. Hi-Lift Lift-Mate for use with Hi-Lift Farm Jacks — Model# LM-100 | Northern Tool + Equipment

Also, I carry my highlift on my PS and it doesn't impeded opening the door.

@jvincig01 I’d be interested in buying your FJ Mount. Please PM me when ready to sell.

I’m I think having a hi lift jack would be essential for all things considered for off road... as a come along... or to use as a spreader like what firemen use but manual and not pneumatic...among other things you can do... however great a tool it is, the one thing it won’t do is lift your Fj40 to for the purpose to change a tire, reason for a jack, right?

unless you have sliders installed or an aftermarket front bumper or a swing away rear bumper. Where are your lifting points on a 40? I’d like to know cause I can’t find any that won’t comprimise the integrity of my 40.

I tried... and I screwed up my quarter panel... I went to my bumperette to see if it would work there and I ended up bending it and tried the rear step where ball hitch is... no luck, so I delegated myself to using a really big log on my stashed away hydrolic mini jack and watched it sink into the az trail dirt as I tried to jack up the 40 to change a tire...refer to right side bumperette image

That lift mate won’t work if your looking to replace a tire.... unless you jack up the vehicle... place some sort of stand under it like a tree truck (lol) and the remove the jack change the tire, jack it back up.., remove trunk and then lower..

In az during summer out in the trail that’s a lot of work to do for one tire

Not bashing the hi lift all.

I have my jack mounted to my roof rack and I will need it one day... the door area is good too, but to what purpose is your jack for if it won’t raise the 40 to change a tire. Just curious that’s all.

I agree, however my exhaust kinda truncated that decision.. I need tge move them from how they were originally done from 15 years ago... I’m going with 4+ or white knuckle off-road.

Yes I wish I had the swing away and sliders but I have to save for a later edition rear bumper as well... so it’s a tidy investment... for now.

The Hi-Lift base (purchased separately) displaces the weight into a 1'x1' footprint... less likely to sink into sand/dirt.

I use the Hi-Lift base under my hydraulic jack... for the same purpose.

When I replaced my wheels and tires, I made sure my new wheels allow the Lift-Mate (purchased separately) to be safely used... e.g. wheel-holes accommodate the Lift-Mate.

I've used my H-Lift, in the garage, to lift 44, to get a custom 2"x4" stand under the rear sill, high enough to allow me to drop my aux tank... the jacking point I used is where the rear PS frame joins the sill.... worked fine.

But, I would never rely on a Hi-Lift holding 44, while changing a tire... too precarious.

You can , however, lift a stuck vehicle and push it sideways, off the Hi-Lift, to reposition the tires.

I do have the base now.and definitely getting a two by four now.. I think I understand what you mean about the jack base and the hydrolic jack

Ok so I use the lift mate tre jack tge vehicle up because my right rear is flat and I need to change it... so I use the hydrolic jack and the hi lift base. Not the hi lift jack with the hi lift jack mate because I have that to strapped to the tire to lift it.. I’m not even sure my wheels would accommodate...-maybe tire straps?

As for lift mate... yes and no. If I’m changing a tire while off trail or on it even on pavement I can’t use the lift mate cause now.. we’ll i can’t change that tire cause it’s being used with lift mate to jack up the vehicke in the first place...so that’s we’re my quandry lies. Having the redutandcy to have to carry a hydrolic jack because... we’ll, cant find a jack point for the hi lift to change a tire

Omg... this is my fault I’ve taken this so off topic. Sorry. Maybe this can be transferred to a new thread?

This along with a hilift jack were on mine when I bought it. I may be selling haven’t decided yet.

sad i went to antique plates and the insurance co said i had to remove all the tools and the winch .factory pto to get coverage for the difference of a few bucks i kept it as is

I have used my hi-lift to change a tire on my slightly lifted 40 but it was precarious to say the least.

Good memory @Solace in Solitude! Here is mine - very simple actually, the second bolt I’m guessing is probably overkill (but a good backup) and requires welding. If you used thicker gauge 2”x2” steel tube you could probably do one bolt. Would be good to have a cable for backup though. The inner nut needs to be welded nonetheless. Locking bolt is readily available online. I just notched each side of the 2x2 to make the wider section.

I made a version of the one @spencer184 made. Worked well. Then decided to do this:

Works well, relatevely easy to get off and on but it interferes with the headlights somewhat. In the spring I might look into having a bracket made the will fit the bull bar lower and more out of the way.
