1 week to go 'til Cruise Moab Dan! Looks great!

Thanks for the info on the axles, Looks awesome cant wait to see it finished!

Not a whole lot done today really, but I did get all of the electrical stuff tested. Turns out that I didn't screw anything up! Hazards, turn signals, heater, windshield wipers.... yep, all works!

YouTube - The 40 has electrics!

I also had to pull it outside just to see it in the sun again.

For what it's worth, if the turbo were here, it would be going for a spin. The brakes work, the steering works, the electrical all works.... About all that's left is to get the hood hooks on, get the turbo on, and then rig up the top (or not) and lift the roll cage into it. Seriously. 1 week to Cruise Moab, and I have to work 4 days of it. But (fingers crossed) the turbo will be back monday, I'll call and see if that's a possibility tomorrow...

You forgot you need windshield wiper blades, TOYOTA emblem in the grille, apron emblems, rear corner emblems, rear corner lights, front bumper, mirrors... ;)

Didn't forget them, just didn't list them. An hour, tops!

Not a lot of posting. Busy.

Bad news for Moab: the turbo will not be back from rebuild in time.

But the good news is the junkyard had a Saab 900 with a T3 turbo. So I snagged it, ran home and slapped it on the truck. Need to get the oil return line to work, but other than that, the truck is ready to run....

Mom was helping out in the shop this afternoon, and she sprayed the clear coat on the roll cage. After letting it dry, some MUDders came over and we lifted it into the truck. Not sure if I'll have time for the soft top at all before CM, if I can even make it in this truck at all, but I'm going to try.... But I kinda want to road trip it to Moab and back to Colorado without doors or a top at all, just to enjoy a little turbo whine and wind in my hair, you know?

More tomorrow.... perhaps. Busy busy.

I think that was the best money every spent at the junkyard. I say run without doors or a top. Maybe a bikini because of sun, but thats it.

Good luck!

Cliffnotes version:

Not taking the 40 to CM tomorrow. Just can't do it safely since I ran out of hose clamps today and couldn't drive it around the neighborhood to test it out. Not enough time tomorrow to start it, check it for leaks and other issues, get it aligned, and an exhaust put it on--and then drive to Moab.

So, I'm taking the faux-lux instead to CM tomorrow, and I'll finish up the 40 at a more leisurely pace. No sense in making mistakes now.
sorry buddy.webp

As to the junkyard turbo: I had to fabricate an oil drain for it, after the only one I could find in the hot rod shop this morning doesn't fit the T3, only the GT series turbo, apparently. But otherwise, it will work. I'll probably do a comparison here, because from what I see, the exhaust on the Safari setup and this one are identical, but the Safari has a significantly larger compressor section. Since literally nothing else will change when we swap turbos, it'll give me a chance to experiment with two different turbos. If I get motivated, we may put it on a dyno with each turbo, just to see the numbers...

See you in Moab!

personally, as much as you would like to show the truck and enjoy it at Moab, i feel you made the right decision.

enjoy the run and post up some pics.

Too much time and effort invested to rush it now and potentially damage something.:)

OK, Moab was fun. Pictures of that elsewhere.

But Dad got a little bit done after he got back.... Looks much more "complete" with the badges and bumper, don't you think?

Hopefully more next week, but the wife and I are planning on an excursion to Spokane for the lilac festival early in the week...

Looks alright I guess; if you're in to that sort of thing. If you are getting sick of looking at it by now, you should drive it up to Santa Fe and leave it in my garage.:grinpimp:

I'm thinking about painting the front bumper on my LX silver now... just because it looks damned good on yours.
